Agreed.

Though I respect S/T more than I do Backspacer, the former at least has a small handful of good songs. Parachutes and Unemployable are two of the songs I enjoy most from the band's last decade, while there's almost nothing memorable or redeemable about Backspacer. It's a yawning chasm of inspiration and good ideas.

I think I'm going to put Riot Act on the car stereo later this evening. It's that time of year.

I also love the descending organ thing that goes on in the left side in Can't Keep (comes back in at the end), and the backing vocals that linger on the words "rise" and "take" in the third verse...oh, and the shaker at the end.

Yup.

Mike has a lot of nice work on Riot Act.

Interesting. Was that because you found the post boring, or were you perhaps reading it in bed after a long day, or was it just what you randomly happened to be looking at when you fell asleep due to some epileptic type condition?

I squeezed two PJ references out of this guy the other day:

http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetai ... -up-radio/

Quote:
CultureMap: I know you’re a record collector. I’m one too. Can you tell me about your best find?

Cody Canada: I was in Dublin last year, around November, and there was a record store on the main drag in the Temple Bar District that had a sign that said "Thanks for twenty great years. Going out of business.”

I went in there and found a live Pearl Jam bootleg from Zurich, 1992, on pink vinyl. A six Euro find! I would have had to pay over fifty bucks for that on eBay. I was ecstatic.

Quote:
CultureMap: ...Was there an "aha moment" for you when music just made sense, or what?

Cody Canada: There’s been several. When I was five, my dad took me to see George Strait. Then I hit about 13, I heard other music. Willie and Merle changed it for me as a songwriter, and then Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots happened.

This place closed too:

I always meant to snap a photo of their sign and post it, but, you know, effort.
