His Spanish just isn't strong enough to carry the tune. Kudos to him for trying, but it just sounds really awkward, especially since he makes the monosyllabic diphthong "bien" into a two-syllable "bi-en".

i dont speak/understand spanish, so i didnt know that. ive always thought it sounded good, and im sure everyone there dug that he was trying at least (yes i know you didnt say otherwise)

Well, it's not easy to fill the two-syllable hole where "OK" was with the monosyllable "bien". So I understand why he's doing it. Plus, he was given the lyrics by some Mexicans, but I'd rather blame the Mexicans than Vedder for this little linguistical problem. I think it would have been worse had he changed the intonation on "está" to fit in the monosyllabic "bien". Now he fits in Está" in place of one syllable (it's) by putting the 'es' from Está before it. He could have done "Ésta bien", but no, I don't like where this post is going.
