This is a point. Unless they've managed to buy back their old masters from Sony, which is unlikely.

..and a 1st. At least i don't know of anybody that was able to pull that of.

There's a few acts that have done it. I just can't remember any at the moment. Sony's asking price for PJ's catalogue would be waaaaaay more than the band are willing to pay, I'd bet!

Good point (and good pick-up, Mine).

Two possibilities:

1: The guy who owns the site got mixed up - perhaps he's had all his correspondence from Pearl Jam's management direct and just assumed whatever official releases the band put out would be through Universal, like Backspacer, not knowing that their previous work was through Sony.

2: Mine's right, this is new stuff.

3: The band have come to an agreement with Sony in regards to old live stuff only? This seems unlikely, though...

Originally, I thought it was gonna be a re-release of Live On Two Legs. Tour posters, laminate, double vinyl, the title...

It's intriguing - the "classic" part of this sentence certainly suggests they're not from the recent tour:

...and why would they be included if this wasn't something to do with older live material?

As far as i understand the guy deals with Universal directly i mean ordering copies is mentioned which means he's in talks with the label.
Old live stuff would be a possibility but new is more likely i think. It's one CD and a double vinyl. That's not even a full show.

Oh and they updated the specs :

Quote:
Pearl Jam Death on Two Legs Limited Edition Super Deluxe Box Set.
Limited Quntity Available.
Due to it being manufactured to order it is sold on a firm sale basis. You order it you have no cancellation on this one.
Features....
CD(with Ebridge to unlock bonus live tracks online)
Double etched vinyl in gatefold sleeve
6 reprints of classic pearl jam live posters
Tour laminate
Oversized booklet
Presented in a Deluxe 12” box.
It is a Live Recording released through Universal/Island.
Full Details and Artwork to follow.

So this is looking like something from the last tour, everything musically of which has been released, with a name similar to a live album from over 10 years ago.

Didn't we used to have a suicide Smilie on this site?

I bet it's a 2010 live compilation ala l2l. Which is going to be hilarious if they use the mixes from the boots already released and they don't match.

mine too.

Maybe it's a live retrospective. It would be easier for them to get the rights to a few specific songs than it would be entire shows, right?

Of course they've put out the gorge and philly box sets too, so it could just be a 'best of' the 2010 tour, but live on two legs/touring band style (cherry picking performances rather than a specific show)

Chud beat me to the Lo2L post

Guys, if Pearl Jam doesn't own their back live catalog (people are intimating they don't) and they release basically every single show after they happen, there are limits to what kind of deluxe live album they can put out.

Well, now I think about it, they managed to release that Vegas '93 show themselves without too much hassle. Hmm.

I presume this thing will come in regular versions too.
The weirdest part of this is that it's a single CD. Whatever live thing it is a single CD is too short by PJ and 2010 standards. Especially a deluxe edition is likely to have a full show worth of material. It's also too short for being a retrospective.

Sony would only own what they were contracted. Which is obviously x amount of studio albums plus the live album (Live on 2 Legs). Sony don't own the live material from the time the band spent on the lable.

That's not necessarily true. They may have rights to everything recorded while the band was under contract. As far as i know this is the default.

I was hoping that part of the description was inaccurate, I guess we'll need to wait and see.

It is with most bands, but it's very possible the band negotiated (or renegotiated) to own their own live recordings - you'd have to imagine they would've been in a pretty good bargaining position once Ten and Vs went gangbusters.

The Vegas '93 show could stand as pretty good evidence that they're free to release their older live material however they wish. I don't remember if the guy who runs Kufala posted it himself on the Pit, or if someone emailed him and posted his response, but I distinctly recall the question being posed to him if there was any chance of Kufala releasing vintage PJ boots and his response was that it was certainly something that had been discussed.

I'd be okay with a 2010 style version of LO2L, even if it's one disc. My only grievance would be if the the whole thing is Ten/Vs heavy with a few cuts from the latest album (like the Immagine dvd).
