the solo sounds too clean to actually be one, but it almost sounds to me like they recorded a reversed guitar track there in the studio. (which is a big fucking deal to me, as reversed guitars are one of my favorite studio sounds in the entire history of music. right up there with nigel godrich production blip sounds.)
i haven't listened to pj in forever, i pop in yield and hear this little tidbit that i've almost certainly never noticed before. that's what saturating yourself with tons of music and coming back to an old favorite again will do to you, folks.

just go in and ask for 'that thing that makes your guitar sound like it's going kinda backwards and stuff'

The solo in What's the Frequency Kenneth is a backwards solo

I had never heard of 'reversed guitar' thing, but I'm learning. Sounds great to me.
Besides, don't you guys think the whole Yield album is full of nice little effects and warm sounds and stuff? I mean, this is not even a question, it's a general truth. Mike's Given to Fly intro, the Wishlist solo, MFC in its entirety, the Lowlight solo.

Yeah, there's a whole long list of little beautiful details.
Brain Of J has the count-in at the start, and the echo at the end.
Faithfull finishes with the verse, perfectly produced.
No Way has a very cool mix, with the wee slide in.
Given To Fly has the warm intro you mentioned.
Wishlist has the solos plus the outro/chorus/fadeout
Pilate is a very beautiful, underrated song.
MFC, Low Light and In Hiding have beautifully warm tones throughout.
All Those Yesterdays has the bass bit that sounds like a tuba.
Plus there are all number of other little things, but those are what come to mind straight away.

I have a boss digital delay (dd-6) it has a reverse affect. Fucking awesome pedal. Ive easily spent hours at a time experimenting.

Although I'm not too sure how that solo was played in the studio, you can definately get a similar effect using an ebow, which cost around $70.
I know that in the Single Video Theory DVD Ed is trying to get Stone to use an ebow as he is using one on Wishlist. Stone doesn't seem to like the idea too much, though. Ed reckons the things the shit, but.
