This is from the Feb. 1st edition of the Wall Street Journal, and there is an article titled 'The Perks and Perils of VIP Ticketing' - U2 Snafu Shows Downside of Effort to Provide Fan Clubs with Special Deals.
Here are some excerpts from the article:
But the U2 case demonstrates all too clearly the ill will that can arise when sales of special tickets go awry. "You've got to take care of those people," says Kelly Curtis, manager of the grunge band Pearl Jam, referring to die-hard fans. "They'll turn on you if you don't."
In the case of U2, the finger-pointing already has begun. People close to the band blame Ticketmaster, saying the ticket seller's equipment failed to keep up with demand; meanwhile, people close to Ticketmaster say the fault lies with U2, adding that the band's management should have limited the number of fans allowed to join the club.
Pearl Jam's fan organization, known as Ten Club, long has used a lower-technology method to allocate tickets for its members, precisely to avoid the kind of problem that occurred with the U2 tour. The band issues a number to each Ten Club member, in the order in which they join. It then allocates the best seats at each venue to members who order them, in order of their membership numbers.
The band plans to execute the same system, by hand, for a nine-month world tour kicking off sometime this summer.

Are we sure that "the band" the article is referring to is Pearl Jam, and not U2?

I'd say yes, U2 has already announced their tour and the tickets have already gone on sale. The article says "the band plans to execute the same system, by hand" right after they Kelly Curtis talks about their "by hand" ticket system.
I actually live in the land of ice and snow so...im fucked, but all the best bands in the world have been coming to play here so...I just hope they'll come to Iceland ....or anywhere near it.. chances

They are clearly not talking about U2 here. Pearl jam, i imagine, does the ticketing by hand with their 'low tech' system. Besides, U2 is kicking off their tour in the spring, March i believe.

You live in Iceland? That's really cool (no pun intended). I hope they come to your country, or at least that you can hop a plane to Scotland or Norway or somewhere else relatively nearby to see them.

I read it, thanks.
I still think it could be interpreted the other way, but it would be because the article was poorly written. It does appear to imply Pearl Jam. Now let's hope the author is not talking out of his ass.

Will have to start putting money into my "Pearl Jam Concert Fund"!!! Hope they have decent dates this time, decent meaning - more concerts in the tri-state area on Weekends!
Hey, and I want to watch a show in Seattle too! It's been a dream to watch them there
