Hi Everyone,
Yesterday, we kicked off our celebration of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary today – September 13 - the date of the "Momma-Son" tape with Ed's lyrics over Stone's riffs.

20 Years ago today, it's pretty amazing. Where were you on Thursday, September 13, 1990?
As for me, I was probably in class as a Sophomore at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. Boring. Yeah, i know.
Cool post. I was just starting my senior year in high school in Madison, CT. I was still into hip hop for about the next 2 years.
I found out about PJ in 1991 as my freshman roommate at UVM blasted them and all the other Seattle bands all the time. I hated it.
But, sometime around early 1992, it just clicked for me though, and I became a fan for life. I think it was the Alive/Black/Hunger Strike combo that really did me in.
I would love to go back to that time though - PJ was on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins & RHCP and they came to Burlington, VT and played at what is the equivalent to a glorified high school gym. Would've been incredible to witness. I missed that show but saw Public Enemy at the same place, which was actually pretty awesome.

i had just started first grade. my only real memory from that time is when i went to the bathroom there for the first time, some other kid pulled his pants ALL THE WAY down to use the urinal, which just didnt sit well with me. so i avoided using the bathroom at school until one day i peed my pants.

This is definitely not a put-down ... but I'm amazed and it's such a great thing that the PJ fanbase is made up of both young and old.
I was born in '71, and in 1990, I would probably say "Man, I wasn't even born when Led Zeppelin was around." Now, we can see the same thing happening with PJ. Kinda mind-blowing

I would have been 13, just starting grade 8. I was listening to INXS, U2 and REM at the time. It would be another year and a half or so before i discovered this band.

I always find you and I in the same boat when it comes to this stuff, just one province over. I was also 13 and starting grade 8. I was really into Guns N Roses and The Beatles, and maybe a bit of pop/rap (Fresh Prince? Roxette?). It wasn't until late '91 when I was into Metallica that it opened the door to grunge.
Amazing how music videos really set the tone for everything then. I watched MuchMusic and Musiqueplus (the french version) all the time. They used to have these "video combat" things where two songs would be played back to back (one being the reigning champ) and people would phone in and vote for their favorite. At some point I remember Jeremy being up against one of those long GNR videos (Estranged?) and feeling incredibly torn as to who should win. Wow, life was complicated!

September 13 1990. I was 19 1/2 getting ready for my 2nd year Uni exams. I was turning up for Business classes as rarely as I could, the only course I failed was that year. I was caretaking my brothers place with mates while he was away working and I was very badly behaved. I would have been listenning to SRV, ACDC, GnR, a bit of Kylie for balance, Weddings Parties Anything, and anything blues or rock. My brothers substantial vinyl collection built up weekly since the mid 70s was also part of my care responsibilities and was ever a source of undiscovered classics. I suspect my hairdo would have been quite dubious. Basketball was my life. I was single, irresponsible and pretty happy about it.
Happy days.
Pearl Jam for me was a good 10 years away at that point.

I was 10. I had older step brothers so I had been exposed to Metallica, The Cars, and lots of Devo. My mom would listen to top 40 stations, and lots of Barbara and Cats the musical. My step dad had a ton of awesome records, The Beatles, Dylan, Baez and so on but I was playing the weird stuff he had like a vinyl that was devoted to important radio broadcasts from WW2, Aggie marching band music, and Disney records that were essentially movies like Lady and the Tramp but audio only. Weird times.

I was 16, just getting into stuff like R.E.M. after coming off of my 80's metal phase. I first heard Porch in late 91? or early 92, and couldn't stop listening to Ten after that. Holy shit, that's 20 years ago?
