From an international perspective, $50 is fairly steep, but I will have no problem paying it. The fact that we get a choice is pretty cool I think.

LOL@ this.
Look, $40 is not a ton of money.
But this really is doubling the cost of the fan club, but creating the "digital option" is really just an excuse to pretend its not just a 100% rate increase. CHUD had it right, it should have been $10 for the digital option. I understand peoples complaining, and frankly, a lot of those you posted from the pit are not that bad, and fairly spot on. They 100% have the right to raise the price, and they need to at least break even, but lets not pretend this is anything more than a rate increase.

FTR: i quit the fan club 4-5 years ago, and have not missed it at all.

Oh yeah, I'm not suggesting it's anything but a price increase overall - but I just don't see anything wrong with that. They're a business, after all. You don't dig it, don't renew - no big deal.

This sort of attitude is what I find hilarious:

Well, at least you're being realistic. Let me know how you go picking up a loaf of bread for 20c.

And congratulations on quitting the fan club.

Its a 100% price increase, and what 400% from 5 years ago? Its a pretty significant rate hike in terms of percentage, so I can get why people are pretty upset about it. Especially those that just want a holiday single and a chance at tickets (which, with the way they have toured lately is bound to be a total waste for the Midwest and the South.). It also hurts them that the band has been so vocal about "protecting the little guy" and keeping things affordable.

What choice are they getting?
Get essentially nothing but the ticket presale password for what you're paying for now, or spend DOUBLE to get a record and a T-shirt you didn't want?

Have they said any of that stuff lately though?

It's easy to say that when you're selling squillions of records and you'll be fine no matter what. Now that they don't and they're (presumably) relying more and more on their live revenue to maintain their financial position, I think they're probably more realistic about where they can make some cash.

Like I said, I don't have a problem. It's their website, they can charge what they want. Their customer base will either wear it or they won't - in this case, I doubt they have much to worry about.

I have no problem with the analog tier as they have it. I'd have liked it at 30 but whatever. The problem is for the same 20 bucks you get less. Either include the physical 45 and newsletter for the digital option, or make it 10 bucks instead of 20. Or maybe offer 10 bucks for digital, 20 for the same as always, and 40 for this fancy one.

Pearl Jam can live of their 1990s output for the rest of their lives.

Well, its not like i am expecting them to put personal money into the fan club. And i don't have a problem with them charging more, I don't have a dog in this fight (mike vick post), its their website, their club- they can charge what they want. But people are acting like this "option" is a great, fan friendly move on their part, when really its nothing more than a distraction. Its like signing up for a porn site, only to discover you can just stream video, not download it unless you pay a bit extra... and realizing you can just stream that crap for free elsewhere.

Oh, someone on the Pit pointed out the international digital version is now $5 cheaper than it was before - makes sense, no mailing stuff overseas, but definitely another reason I'll go for that over the "analog" subscription.

What they should have done is have 3 tiers 20/25/35 dollars having tier 1 pure digital instead of raising the price of the membership as it is now...then tier 2 be what we're getting now so we have an option of keeping that with a normal price increase and tier 3 what their analog tier is...I'd say inflation but isn't the problem right now deflation? Things should be getting cheaper until the feared explosion of massive inflation occurs then a digital membership will be $50.00 and analog $100.00 but until that happens we should be getting more for less dammit!!
I really don't care...I download the xmas single now anyway since my turntable is at my Fathers house and I don't need any more t-shirts.

I'm only in the 10C for the ticket presales and holiday vinyl. Now I can't even get both of those in a single membership? Happy fucking New Year.

re; prices go up:

inflation is running about 2% a year in america. costs do not go up that much. it's just about more money.

no big deal, but that's the truth.

i'm old fashioned, i like analog so i'll go for that, but also because i stil want the xmas single, i could care less for the t-shirt though and getting ticket is a bitch no matter what thanks to scalpers...
kind of a step increase in the end though, but nice to have a choice, some other fanclubs switched to digital without giving you that choice and in the end the digital stuff ends up getting you little.

I'll go analog, the digital option is completely pointless in paying for. a bunch of stuff worth nothing that you can get elsewhere for free and the chance to give them more of your money in the shop, and to get slightly better tickets than everyone else to shows that are pretty sucky these days anyway.
