Stone is my favourite guitarist in Pearl Jam, no question.

His solos in DTE, Brain of J. and Rats are shit hot.

I'll always love Mike--he plays to the primitive urges that I had when first getting into Pearl Jam, the kind that were satisfied by a man whose appeal lay strictly in his phenomenal powers of showmanship. But Stone is definitely the smarter player--more ideas, less predictable, and a better sense of melody. As much as I love Mike, I think his sense of melody as a soloist is pretty limited--which is odd, because as a writer, that's absolutely not the case. He's definitely more fluid than Stone, but he does seem to go Eddie Van Halen on more songs than you'd think could stand it.

he plays the guitar with a more technical approach...but it ends up being more...emotional....

of course i dont think Stone could capture the emotion that black needs....but...overall...

Kevin Davis, spot on

I mean, i cannot deny the magic he created in milwaukee 95 little wing/maggot brain...stone will never get to that level...

BUt yes, overall...Mike has resigned to being a guitar god type of player.

Stone rules

Here's another question: best acoustic guitarist in PJ?

Might sound weird, but I say Ed.

I'm gonna unlock this B, since the SB thread is really just about stone in general--this is probably worth its own thread.

No, it's general board policy to, in the absence of other influences, do the exact opposite of whatever you want.
