Or we could discuss their sponsors cause they now having fucking sponsors.
No they don't.
Right you are and I stand corrected. They are however playing a corporate event and are playing more and more festivals that are sponsored. I know it's the way things are done but when you stand tall and scream, well glass houses.
They still stand for a lot that I believe in and I think they have maintained their integrity. The problem I have is that a lot of what I agreed with in the early 90s and what Eddie stood for, well it banded us (the fans, hell we were proud of our band) together in an 'us against them.' I know Eddie says he wasnt a messiah and all that but for a while there he played up to it and played the press. If I remember correctly he was in high school plays/musicals so the limelight was something he was at the least used to if not sought after.
Anyway back to drummers.....
Dave A rocks and Dave K was a tasty thumper. And Dave A also jumped in the crowd to save Eddie one day. Can't imagine Matt doing that.
I remember an interview with Jeff where he said that 'X' was the perfect drummer for PJ. I thought it was around 93 and he was talking about Dave A but that can't be right. does anyone remember that?
Not sure if this is what you're thinking of, it's probably not, but it made me think of this:
AMENT: I've been lucky, because pretty much all the drummers I've played with have been good. But Dave is a more steady drummer, whereas Dave Krusen is kind of hit or miss. When Dave Krusen was on it was great -- it had a loose, laid-back, Charlie Watts-type feel, but often the feel of the songs pushed and pulled a little too much. Dave Abbruzzese is more of a rock drummer.
Which in turn made me think of Mike's quote from shortly after Jack joined that he was a great fit as he's a Matt Cameron-style drummer, pretty interesting in retrospect:
GW: How is it working out with you new drummer, Jack Irons? Wasn't he the one who referred Eddie to you guys when you were originally looking for a singer?
MCCREADY: Yeah. Jack's amazing. Dave was a great musician, but I think Jack is a little more of a Matt Cameron (Soundgarden) type of drummer and is better suited to us. We actually feel like a complete band now for the first time. We're Spinal Tap when it comes to drummers [laughs], but I think this is gonna be the final change.
FYI Mike, Jack doesn't really play anything like Matt. I mean, they both play the drums, but that's about it.
Yeah that could have been the quote. Thanks for digging that up. And Matt is nothing like Jack. I still wonder how Matt was so loose for the TOTD sessions. Also, did anyone hear how tight Matt was once SG had reformed. It was like he starting practising again. The South American and Canadian tours have some of his best recent drumming.

Surprised at Jack being ahead in the votes.
Although Krusen helped shape the Pearl Jam sound, Abruzzese defined it for me. I love them all though.
Welcome to the board!
mmm Stip does that...im not sure if he´s going to be happy when he sees this..
I'm grooming Kurtleon to take my place after I'm gone

I see great things in your future, but you still have much to learn

The Jack Irons era produced my favorite Pearl Jam album so I guess I'm biased towards Jack. But there is a certain playfulness and energy to the band's sound with Jack that's missing on the other records. I like almost all of Matt's contributions too (except the Fixer) but yeah, team Jack all the way.

My brother, his best friend, another friend of mine, and her boyfriend were all at the Midtown show with me on Saturday. It was the first time seeing PJ for all of them. Every single one of them at one time or another said to me how much of a beast 'that guy' was on the drums. Granted, they never saw Irons live, but just sayin'...

Aw strat. Don't forget his amazing and career changing that fixer demo could have been. It broke new ground and didn't sound at all like a ton of other songs Matt had written for pj.

I love all Matts contributions. He has been the only interesting writer in the band for awhile now I feel. Moreso than others, at least.
