A big crop of b-sides and outtakes only happens about half the time, right?

Ten: Wash, Dirty Frank, Footsteps, Ledbetter, SOLAT, Breath, Hold On, Brother, Girl

Vs: hard to imagine, alone, hold on

Vitalogy: nothing really

No Code: black red yellow, dead man, all night

Yield: leatherman, you (we'd be better off without them)

Binaural: Sad, Fatal, Education, Hitchhiker, Sweet Lew, In The Moonlight

Riot Act: down, undone, otherside

s/t: nothing

backspacer: nothing

actually I guess a little more than half, but only two albums had a ton of b-sides. And almost none of the binaural stuff was released until Lost Dogs. There's no reason to assume that there isn't a lot more out there and they've just been saving it.

True, good way to look at it. Of your 'Ten' list, I only really like three of them.

I've never looked at it like this before. The Ten extras are obviously top-notch, but this is often the case with a new band.

Yield - They got it right.
Riot Act - Could've been better with those songs.

S/T and Backspacer.... there must be some stuff ready to release

They'd just end up on this soundtrack if that were the case

given the success of lost dogs it doesn't really make sense for the band to release b-sides anymore, when they can release a compilation like that in a slow year.

Unless they want to sprinkle the b-sides among re-hashes of old material to increase the sales of stuff they've already done.

we got the vitalogy version of hard to imagine on the chicago cab soundtrack, so I guess that counts.
For no code, we also got don't gimme no lip. Yield also gave us whale song, Riot Act also gave us 04/20/02 and I'd technically call Santa Cruz a backspacer b-side.

could a few of the tracks on Ukulele Songs be considered Riot Act b-sides?

I wouldn't really think so. They may have been written at around the same time, but I don't think they would have ever been considered pearl jam songs.

that would also work. My point is just that there probably isn't money to be made in releasing b-sides anymore in the b-side format.

Radiohead disagrees.

True, but there wasn't much money to be made with CD singles to begin with. I imagine if they made 7" singles with b-sides and sold through the 10C then at least all profits would be pocketed.

I ended up with 4 singles from Backspace, so someone is making money!
