I think this is what siduriman was hoping to get at when he started his thread about Ed's wedding. This is as good of a quote as you'll find about how the band gets along and/or works together. If you did, you may find an interview where Jeff or Stone talk about seeing other band members in their down time.

I’m going to go to practice in the basement (with Pearl Jam) in about 10 minutes and I think that’s the best part, that we’re still working and probably working on a higher level of efficiency than ever before. Just meaning that our level of communication is a 20-year relationship between partners, (where) you kind of know what the other person is thinking; all these things that can really benefit you, just in the songwriting process alone. I think the biggest emotion is a bit of being overwhelmed, in a positive way, by the fact we survived it all.
Does the relationship that Pearl Jam members have with each other affect their music? Should we care or not?

The idea that they're "efficient" in their process has been brought up before. When I think of words that associate with musical brilliance, originality, or creativity, "efficient" isn't one of them.

I think bands stay together because they're on good friendly terms from the get-go, but after so many years and all the time you're face to face with each other its easy to see how people get sick of one another.
I think lots of big bands are like that. Once they're off the road, they all go their separate ways.

Yeah, that's pretty much what they've said publicly, too, and it makes sense. They've spent the last twenty years of their life together, and after that long, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't see much of each other when they weren't working.

I really like the part where Ed says "the biggest emotion... Is that we survived it.". If I think about what I've been through since then, and the few people who've been around for the whole ride, I can only begin to imagine... And it's nice that they all ate still as committed as the are to the band, still touring together so much. Yet it sounds like the focus of their lives and even their work is elsewhere now to a large extent. I'm just so happy they're still making music and still touring. (sorry if this sounds like a 'Pit' post... I have to admit I have a lot of love as the overwhelming emotion for what they've given me!)

B, you were right to lock that thread. Re-opening it like this was a mistake, this isnt the Pit.
I disagree. I think their relationship affects their music. Those pointing out that the band being "efficient" may not have a good effect on music have a great point.

i mean, going your separate ways after a tour is one thing, but not inviting your bandmates of 20 years to your wedding is entirely another.
Wasn't it in hawaii or something? maybe they didnt want to/couldn't fly out.

I think he just used the wrong word, he explains himself afterwards though. He's not talking about actual efficiency just that they have a higher level of understanding with each other, that makes writing with each other easier. I think, anyway.
