It's strange that this comes after Alpine Valley in particular, cause it seemed like he was having a great time.

I get it. The name of the song is "Public Image", PiL is the band that plays the song. That's very astute.

Just explaining what was throwing me off, Especially since i don't know why the "i" is lower case in the acronym.

Pearl Jam should do a song called Pearl.

Wait, did you guys not even have a vague familiarity with the song Public Image and the band Public Image Ltd (PiL) before the Pearl Jam cover?

I realise this might come across like I'm being unreasonably snooty, but that seriously blows my mind. I can't imagine how you guys wouldn't be aware of the song and the band, if only from absorbing popular culture.

sounds vaguely familiar with the ltd attached, but not even as a band, just as a thing i've heard of somehow, and certainly not in acronym form. also, you're old and unamerican.

Stone was the 'leader' of the band like 17 years ago. If he was gonna have quit the band over that it would have been a LONG time ago. If he is harboring resentments 17 years, millions of dollars, critical acclaim, legions of devoted fans, a movie about your band, and a sure fire first round induction into the R+R hall of fame later then he's pretty petty.

That made me think of this, which was a slightly different situation:

Stone obviously enjoys playing with Julian Casablancas more than Eddie:

Man, this is an interesting (but ultimately stupid) thread...

A few people have made the point that if Stone was ever gonna quit then he would have done it 17 years ago. I agree with this statement; he's happy in this band, he's just more introverted than the other 4. It’s nothing more than that.

People are putting to much an 'Ed v Stone' aspect on this in terms of Stone songs and collaborations with Ed. What is being overlooked is the emergence of Mike as a song writer in this band. Since 1998 Mike has been a steady contributor and it's a band with 5 song writers in it who all want their songs on albums. Here’s a quote from the recent interview Stone gave to promote the movie:

“We have all these amazing stories that Ed has written, the variety of lyrics and the variety of perspectives is amazing and our job as a band is to strum along and create energy, and animate him if we can, see if we can make him excited. It’s as simple as that, there’s magic but we’re not skilled craftsmen”
(Source: http://www.twofeetthick.com/2011/08/sto ... j20-movie/ )

Stone has plenty writing credits on Backspacer and there's 2 Ed and Stone collaborations in Supersonic and Amongst The Waves. Don’t over analyse it, just be thankful that their still together.
