I don't see myself listening to this much in the future, if at all. But if Eddie can learn to write decent lyrics again, it sounds like there's something to back them.

thing is, it doesn't do jack for me musically either. it sounds like most recent PJ rock songs, very few of which i've enjoyed.

But I guess we already knew that with songs like Got Some, Johnny Guitar, and a small part of Supersonic.

I'm pretty indifferent to it. B asked me to write something for TSIS and I'm not sure what to say. Plus I think he gets complaints if I don't gush about something. A few people commented about my lukewarm reaction to the Uke record.

on strict musical terms, i like this a lot. Eddie sounds good too - there's some vocal overdubs in there at the end IMO. anyway, i'm curious to have a read at the lyrics...i like that it sounds less polished than most Backspacer songs.

Comments like this make me wish they would release more information with their songs. This could be a fun little throw away b-side they release late at night with zero fanfare (even on their website) just for the hell of it (or just to give you a studio version of a song they are about to play) but that nice little gesture gets trampled under people's angst about the next album.

Like I said earlier, what if the first thing you heard off of No Code was Don't Gimmie No Lip, or the first thing you heard from Yield was Leatherman, or Hitchhiker from Binaural?

Unfortunately, I've listened to this a few times and can't say it does anything for me. Hopefully, that'll change.

Ok, I keep listening and musically there's stuff I really like a lot. Especially the last minute. The lyrics are terrible though, though some of the vocal overdubs that Alexandre speaks of are really cool, especially in the last few seconds.

But even though the music is pretty good, it's like they took one of the quirkier aspects of the band from the Riot Act/Self Titled era and filtered it through more modern Pearl Jam sensibilities. Like when they do the "stop!" thing and when Ed keeps saying Ole Ole over and over again. And I think that leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

I can't remember the last time I felt so conflicted about a Pearl Jam song.

If they released this randomly, I'm doubting it would end up on the new album which supposedly isn't really close to being done.

the live version is 100x better. still a corny song in my opinion. they should have used the word "ole'" a few less times and the song would have been cooler.

yeah that's a real stumbling block for me right now too. I think I'd like the song fine without that.
