Well, there seems to be quite a few people that do not enjoy the live qualities of the band like they did 5 - 10 years ago. So instead of bashing the sloppiness I thought it could be fun to discuss what PJ could concretely do in order to get some of us fully excited again. Lets keep in mind that they wont dedicate their whole life to the band like they did in the 90s and that Eddies voice has deteriorated. Nevertheless I believe that it is still possible for them to play a whole tour that we will rate as tight and great as for example the 2000 tour.
Alright, lets start:
1. Instead of playing 120 different songs start to vary the setlist order more! They are so invested in playing dozens of different songs but yet many songs nearly always appear at the same point in the setlist. For example Just Breathe works much better in the main set than in the encore where it gets usually played. And some songs only appear as an opener. Here is a great potential for efficient variety that doesnt get used.
2. Dont play songs that Eddie cant sing! Glorified G for example doesnt work nowadays.
3. Eddie should stop to sing an octave higher when it isnt necessary. Many versions of present tense suffer from him doing this. Also the outro of small town.
4. Play more RA Songs. They fit Eddies vocals more than some recent stuff like Johnny Guitar. (Which is a great song!)
My example of a setlist that they could nail:
1. Cant Keep 2. Last Exit 3. Hail Hail 4. Gods Dice 5. Low Light 6. Cropduster 7. NAIS 8. Even Flow 9. Daughter 10. Unthought Known 11. Whipping 12. Corduroy 13. Off He Goes 14. RVM 15. Black 16. Porch
Encore 1
17. Sleight of Hand 18. Parachutes 19. Man of the Hour 20. Sad 21. Animal 22. Alive

Proprably including more less-played songs, like Light Years or All Or None. These songs are anthems! An All Or None followed by Crazy Mary would be destructive.
I think that Mike could try something new on some solos in songs like Life Wasted and Got Some.
And one thing, Don't let Stone do the solos. Ever.
I think Ed shoul try to Impose his voice more than try to scream out, like he did in that Present Tense in São Paulo, 2005.

You should also suggest topless cheerleaders with beer canons and urinals along the front row.
Actually my intention was to think of realistic things Pearl Jam could do to deliver even better live shows. My key idea is that they neglect some songs they could easily nail with a bit rehearsal (like Sleight of Hand or NAIS) and play other songs that are too hard for Eddie instead. So I suggest to reduce the huge varity of songs that get played during a tour and focus on 50 - 60 songs or so that they really nail. This is not unrealistic but a concrete idea how they deliver better shows without a lot more of effort. You dont agree?

Matt, stay away from Present Tense.
Really? I love his solos. At times they are much more groovy and interesting than what Mike does.

Stone solos are just bland and unmemorable... Some times I really forget that there is a solo in Do The Evolution for exemple, its not like Mike ALWAYS do great solos, Comatose solo its pretty unmemorable to, for exemple. But to think that Not For You and Do The Evolution could have great solos, but Stone does it, and it became kinda boring. I really like when he does a duet with Mike, though, like in Even Flow or Rocking In The Free Wrold.

These are all things I think they should keep doing.
