i think its probably just Backspacer giving me more of an appreciation for ST. the slick, poppy sound of Backspacer is kinda annoying me now, so the raspier, garage sounding ST sounds better in relation.
i've recently went from thinking the first half was ok to thinking its really an awesome rock record. Life Wasted is becoming a classic rocker to me, and Comatose and Severed are already there. Marker and Parachutes are nice too. i know its hard to enjoy for some of the audiophiles around here because of the production, but i can overlook that now.
who knows, one day i might like the whole thing.

I much prefer Backspacer as a whole, but PJ has grown on me. I think the first half is really strong but from Big Wave to Inside Job there are too many problems.

the first half of that record is fantastic. Weak second half though

The newest Pearl Jam album always enhances my enjoyment of its predecessor. I used to think this was "wrong." Now I just roll with it, as the cool kids say.

This has certainly been the case with every album since at least Binaural.
I've always liked Avocado (more than Riot Act at least). I prefer Backspacer, but i do agree that the top half of Avocado is very strong.

Extremely true - I hated Avocado upon release, viciously. Now, it ain't so bad. Not my favourite by any means, but some very good tunes (as well as a couple of not-so-hot ones).
I've been massively down on Backspacer since around two weeks after its release, it'll be curious to see how I feel once the next album's out.
It's easier to appreciate an album when you can place it some kind of historical perspective, I guess.

still hate it.
only enjoyable songs are unemployable and army reserve. on the plus side it really lowered my expectations for backspacer, which i actually really enjoy. so, that was a nice surprise. but really, i can't even believe pearl jam released ab album as bad as s/t.

It started before Backspacer came out, and has nothing to do with my opinions on Backspacer, but Avocado has grown on me. I still think it's PJ's weakest album, but that dosent mean I dont think it's good. If I'm in a mood to rock out, Avocado can fit the bill just fine.
