Yep, the flow of information is the biggest problem as I see it.
No bootlegs? Alrightly then, say so. Pearl Jam are a major level band, they have to have things planned months in advance. I don't buy that they just didn't know about boots yet.
Here's an idea of how it should've been done:

Hey Ten Clubbers,
We're sorry to announce that at this point there will be no official bootlegs available to purchase for the upcoming Euro tour. We know you will be disappointed and we apologise for that. At this stage, the costs are becoming prohibitive and we are trying to find another way to make this work.
Thanks for your understanding,

Don't be sad for too long however, as we are going to be changing the way the boots are produced! Big things are on the way and all will be revealed later - though this may not be until after the tour.
Thanks for your understanding,

Now, is that so fucking hard?
And when they say something is coming ("something big, bold and free!", vault shows, exciting new bootlegs developments) actually mean it. And apologise when it doesn't happen. And tell us why not.

Oh, and I think 10C members should be able to openly criticise the 10C without other fans shouting them down as ungrateful. 10C are big boys, they can handle it. How else will they ever know that they're fucking up?!
As punkdavid wrote in the epic "No Bootlegs" thread in PJ Live: when you visit a store, the store thanks YOU for your custom - not the other way around.

They should invite me to all their meetings (fly me out) and then I can come here and tell you guys what the fuck is up.
Seriously, Ten Club, I'll buy my own meals, and the only salary I command is first dibs at cool stuff.

i've been a fan forever and the band tries very hard, but doesn't always see the trees for the forest. they've always been this way and personally, i can't hold this against them. Since they've always been this way, I see it as just being them. They don't mean to be inconsiderate. Their intent is likely to opposite.
10c doesn't know if there will be bootlegs. Odds are, the band hasn't decided and if they do, they may change their mind. No point in getting upset. This is how the band is.
All they need do is say so...just make a quick announcement...see above...

I'm sure there's a reason about the poster sales. Maybe it has to do with keeping the same people from buying everything. I don't know. I do know I saw hard-core, die-hard fan club members buy far more at shows than they reasonably should. I was embarrassed to see it because it was us.
They could announce the sales or give a date range or some sort of information...again, it's frustrating to fans when everything is a guessing game and cryptic.

The Gorge, maybe that's supposed to be a surprise or, maybe there is no difference so why announce nothing. Frankly, my advice is to buy everything from their website if only because they get more money. If they make it more special, that's awesome. I'd consider it a gift but that shouldn't be the reason to buy from them.
It's a jerk move. People want to know what they are buying. If someone is strapped for cash, they may wait until they can get it on sale at Best Buy. If it is something special, they may buck up and get it now and spare getting something else. It's only fair to know what you are buying. If it was a mystery CD Box Set...list it as Mystery...we've all pretty much figured out it is an exclusive package. How about a small description...if they don't know, say: "We don't know what the packaging will look like, but we promise it will be special." Done. The question about the Tom Petty song has been asked a million times...is it going to be on there? Just fucking come out and say Yes or No...

god, whatever it was intended to be, they changed their mind. this is pearl jam. it's what they do.
Are you serious? Is the question...you must be living in a box or in denial...this topic is brought up once a week...at the least!!! All they need to do is come out and say they changed their mind...Done. This is all about communication with the fans.

ten club = pearl jam. yeah, there are people who work at ten club and don't make music, but the band makes all the decisions. it really is all about them.
i can't get upset over this small stuff. the music's great. i don't expect them to do outstanding in other areas. just make the music. the rest is extra.
as for other band's fan clubs being models that pj can't achieve, well... other bands can't create their music so whatever.
no, i don't think ten club can do know wrong, i just don't take it personally when things don't turn out.
but i do take it very personally when they do turn out because, this is the band. and when they do get it right and special, it's a gift.
that's my thought on this. i never did understand why people would get mad at ten club but it's been this way for years. i just wanted to know what it was
*** this time***
I understand your views...but I think their communication with their fan base is extremely poor...it could be better and could make the bond between the fans and the band even stronger than it already is.

s/t was a gift.
I don't know how people can't get seats to shows when they made it so fucking easy and fan club seats are as good as they can be considering the venue is always going to take some. The band can't keep them all and still book these venues. Unfortunately, the business sucks. Pearl Jam has found a way around that for us for the most part.
I think the tour announcement thing has to do with trying to build anticipation, but what do i know.

Hmm a thread to start a session to complain about ten club, this is going to end ugly :)
I still think they are the best fan club out there, but theres always room for improvement.
I think they should pull a scott and give them selve ample margin for error on shipment dates. IE if they think it'll be out in June, tell us itll be out in July, and when it shows up early we'll be stoked :) (well if it shows up early.. heh).
The senority tickets unlimited shows thing made my tickets alot worse. I don't see more then one or two shows on a tour.. so its disheartening to see people at their 12th show on the tour in the 5th row. I realize senority should count, but the atrition is pretty stagnant, so some people will get to see a boat load of shows up front, and some people will never have shot.
Thats about it really.. I like the advance tickets, and my senority is about 1/3 of the way down.. so I get ok seats to shows. With other non fan club shows i seem to be 50/50 on whether my seats are better then 10c seating at a pj show. So not having to deal directly with TM is a total bonus.
And I should also add I think its a bloody miracle how ten club gets around the 10 percent fan club ticket rule TM imposed, I don't get how they do it, but no other fan clubs seem to be able to pull it off?
Hmm a thread to start a session to complain about ten club, this is going to end ugly
That is not the intention of this thread. This thread wasn't intended to be a bitch about/bash on 10 Club.
Seems like there are many threads out there recently bitching about how bad 10C has been recently...may or may not be the case. Some threads are fair, others are not...
How can we fix the bitter feelings some of the fans have...that is the intention of this thread...
I like Ten Club a lot. They do a bunch of great things and offer a bunch of great products. For the most part they are flawless...However, like I said...I think most of the time it is plain old communication...just communicate with the fans...no games, no empty promises...

Do you really think that? I don't. I get the impression over the last few years that the 10C is just some tool of the management...
Like the 10C ticketing fiasco for the Australian tour. Only the first show in each city had 10C tickets available and plenty of 10C's ended up resorting to scalpers to have to get in to the second or third shows in some cities.
People mentioned this to the band and they had no idea. It's hardly as if they all sit around and organise the 10C on their days off. They trust that the 10C and management are looking after the fans and just worry about making music, I'd wager. And why shouldn't they?
10C/Management is who need to pull up their socks, not the band. The band and the fan club aren't the same thing at all.

I work for a small company that makes big money decisions. There are three partners, and they are rarely around to guide us. We need them for the big decisions, and they guide the ship, but we are the operations of the company, and we have to have our shit together and be able to run this place with the little support and guidance that we know we are going to get from the partners.
If me and the CFO and teh rest of teh operations department at my company ran this place like Ten Club and PJ managment ran their operations, we'd be out on the streets and the company would be bankrupt. But since the band Pearl Jam is a COMMODITY IN AND OF THEMSELVES, and essentially print money and lay golden eggs, they can have a shitty management company and it doesn't really matter much to the bottom line.
If the band relied on management to bring in revenue, it would be a different story.
Truth is, the only incentive for a company to provide good service to its customers is for the partners in that company to rely on the customers' satisfaction for their income. Pearl Jam does, but it's through the record company and their tour management that they make their money, not the 10 Club. 10C is a parasite on the body of PJ. It barely functions enough to secure it's own survival, nothing more.
As someone else said, it's still one of the best fan clubs out there, and that is probably true. It's the only fan club I've ever belonged to. Doesn't change the fact that their customer satisfaction level is abyssmal, and unfortunately, that poor service reflects on the partners, being that they are public figures and have always attempted to carry the mantle of caring deeply about their fans. I'm sure they do in fact care, but not enough to spend any of their free time dealing with the details of what is going on in the 10C's offices.

ok sure..but if they say that...and things dont work out like they really want them to...or it takes longer than they hoped...the fans will bitch. right? yes. Dont fuckin dney that either. They are damned if they do damned if they dont.
the people that are on the other side of what you feel, dont think you guys are whiney bitches, cause you are entiteld to your opinion, we most likely just DONT CARE. if we get "this" or get "that" great, if not...we will move on with our lives.
