Can I ask who caryn rose is? Or is that not something that is supposed to be asked?

it usually amazes me when people hate pearl jam songs. I understand not liking a song fine, but hate implies a certain level of personal slight that I just don't get

No, my sister was though. I opted for Albany that year as my non Boston show.

I still think Hartford 2006 is a good example of what I think Pearl Jam should be doing more of.

The poster-tube clutching superfans hated that one: they were obviously doing something right.

you are aware of a random show pearl jam played in hartford in 2006. I think this qualifies you as a superfan.

Guys, I'm undeniably a superfan - but an altogether different kind of superfan to the ones I'm referring to here.

Yeah, you all know exactly the difference spenno is talking about.

Spenno's description makes me think of Stimpson J. Cat running up the stairs at the XL center wearing an Avocado tour shirt, a fitting image for the kind of follower he's referring to.

We at RM are more "Ren"-type superfans.

Wtf is wrong with holding poster tubes? You don't want your poster getting squashed or beer all over it. I'll go even further and say the guy holding the poster tube is usually carrying 2 or 3 of his friends posters in there. He's a nice guy. To make a distinction between 'those kind of fans' and those that are on the Internet everyday is unfair. You're just a big a loser as poster tube guy. even if you think you're cooler than him.

"Wtf", indeed.

I never claimed to "cooler" than those sort of fans, nor did I call them losers.

There's all kinds of different Pearl Jam fans, my point (though I presumed it was obvious) is that a setlist heavy on new material and light on fist-pumping nostalgia wouldn't necessarily go down that well with all of them - but I think that's a risk the band would be advised to take, especially if they want to maintain the interest of their fans who are interested in more than crossing another b-side of their setlist spreadsheet or remembering the good ol' days blasting Ten back in their college dorm. You know, be like a real band that actually does work.

Anyway, we should not sully this magnificent thread any further.

I loved S/T and wanted to hear as much new material as possible, and Hartford still fell flat. Maybe I just think I want that and I really don't

Oh, who knows. I'm just throwing out shallow generalisations about the audience at a performance I didn't even attend - everyone needs a hobby.

Post subject:  Re: The most stip post(s) of all time.

i think pearl jam are confused about who their fans are. They are still around (and releasing relatively relevant records and constantly touring) because of the fans that stuck with them in the non-fist pumping years. It appears as though the band is "rewarding the faithful" by playing them the fist pumpers that they fell in love with in the first place . However, i think the only people that really NEED to hear those songs are the ones that, ironically, left the bandwagon during non fist pump anthem years.

So, PJ, get your head on straight. Your "real" fans, the ones you should cater to more, are the ones who rather you play all or none because you love it, instead of Even Flow just because your rube fist pumper fans want to hear it.
