The thing that bugs me the most about Ed's style right now (and the past years) is the emphasis on "the"..... sung like, "THUHHHH"

For instance, the new xmas single song "Better Things"... Starts off, "He is wishing you THUH bluest sky.."

Why emphasize "the" so much when he hits that word? I know it's such a stupid thing to get hung up on, but it just stands out so much to me. It's the exaggeration, when I feel like his subtle singing is so strong.

I thought Ed's voice sounded really good when he performed with Tom Petty the other night.

i think i found a perfect example of what i love and what i hate about eddie vedder's voice.

the way he sings "my head" at the start is terrible. he didnt sing like this back in the day. on the flip side, the first two lines of "sometimes" sound perfect. i know there are musicians on here, is there something specific he's doing?

I'm not a vocalist but he has adopted a range of horrible habits to ostensibly keep his voice at a certain level. The problem is it makes many songs sound terrible. I didn't notice it much at his solo show but then I don't think he has as much trouble singing that material. He sounds and looks a lot less natural than he used to and the pulling away from the mic approach really grates.

I have no problem with a singer ageing but I don't know why he has adopted all these habits (and come to terms with the fact that you don't have Chris Cornell's plentiful hair) - I'd rather listen to Bob Dylan (current voice). It doesn't help that Pearl Jam continue to play the songs they play and don't bother changing arrangements other than tuning down which sounds both awful (in most cases) and lazy.

This completely nullifies your point along with all future posts by you from this moment forth.

By real good, do you mean he sang in key? That's all I got out if that performance. There's no particular vocal range being displayed. He didn't come in with a high harmony when Petty sang a verse.

This thread is beyond knitpicky. Funny though.

All I can hear is that when he's confident, he just goes for a note straight off. He either hits it or doesn't, but it still sounds strong.

But on "head", he starts lower and his voice climbs to the right note. So it sounds lazy.

He should quit smoking.

Still the 2012 tour was a pretty good one in terms of eddie´s voice.
