Just a quick question or two...

I remember hearing last year that Pearl Jam or Eddie (solo) was going to release a song called "Better Things" then I read in this thread that Eddie does have a song called "Better Things" --which is not The Kinks cover... Is this true? And was Eddie's original "Better Things" ever released? :?:

I'm an analog subscriber and got the download. Aren't we still supposed to receive the actual record, though? Has that not gone out yet?

I don't think they've sent it out yet.

I like this single. I think I may give the slight edge to Devil Doll over Better Days. Having said that, I'm glad PJ covered The Kinks. I've been pushing them on anyone who will listen for years, and I think they are one of the most severely underrated bands ever. Although, I'm not too keen on their later stuff...for me songs like "Better Days" is a pretty big drop-off from what they did in the 60's and early 70's. 'Face To Face' through 'Muswell Hillbillies' is right up there with the best output of that era.

Agree with enjy. It's like Supersonic, only worse. I'm calling it now - Pearl Jam will cover "Be Yourself" by Audioslave on their next album, and work will begin on the PJ25 movie which will be a biopic starring Justin Beiber as Eddie Vedder.

Yeah, it was an odd choice, especially considering what the Kinks did from 1966 to 1972.

If you look at the lyrics, it makes sense they chose this song.

How so?

The lyrics are below, and I'm not seeing why it makes sense they chose this song. I love Ray Davies and I think he's quite possibly the best rock lyricist of all time. Having said that, I'm luke warm on the song. It's OK, but it's far from the Kinks best output.

Here's wishing you the bluest sky,
And hoping something better comes tomorrow.
Hoping all the verses rhyme,
And the very best of choruses to
Follow all the doubt and sadness.
I know that better things are on the way.

Here's hoping all the days ahead
Won't be as bitter as the ones behind you.
Be an optimist instead,
And somehow happiness will find you.
Forget what happened yesterday,
I know that better things are on the way.

It's really good to see you rocking out
And having fun,
Living like you just begun.
Accept your life and what it brings.
I hope tomorrow you'll find better things.
I know tomorrow you'll find better things.

Here's wishing you the bluest sky,
And hoping something better comes tomorrow.
Hoping all the verses rhyme,
And the very best of choruses to
Follow all the drudge and sadness.
I know that better things are on the way.

I know you've got a lot of good things happening up ahead.
The past is gone it's all been said.
So here's to what the future brings,
I know tomorrow you'll find better things.
I know tomorrow you'll find better things.
