So lame. Pearl Jam image management. That's like making a documentary about a band and only doing interviews with the current members of the band...and perhaps Chris Cornell.

Yeah, I am tired of these 'found footage' fake documentaries.

I find it weird that Kat locked the thread with the link to this article over at the official Pearl Jam forum. I find it weird that anything negative said about the band on another website will get locked over at the official Pearl Jam forum. Instead of having an open discussion about why people agree or disagree, they pretend like it never happened. A bit fascist, if you ask me.

Classic Kat!

she really is a fucking idiot.

I don't see why you'd label anything from the early nineties 'core' anyway. I thought 'core' jokes were a strictly noughties phenomenon.

Wha?!

Seriously. Core is so 90s it's sickening.

I dunno. I said core jokes anyway, not core itself. You wouldn't apply 'core' to anything grunge anyway.

What? They deleted this? FFS. That's so stupid.

The guy has a point here.

No he doesn't. It's hyperbolized caricature that's applicable only to a small fraction of Vedder's output. What "point" is he making, exactly? Anything that hasn't been articulated about 700,000 times before?

Quote:
I don't know, do these things bug you? Given the choice between a passionate defence of something a writer loves vs an unhinged hate-filled diatribe about something they completely despise, I'll take the latter every time. It's more fun.

The guy's preferences don't bother me; I couldn't care less what his or anyone else's list of most hated bands is. But I've lost interest in these kinds of easy wind-up articles, and don't think they belong in proper publications. As I imagine most people here also do, I know popular music well enough to know the standard objections to most of these bands, which is pretty much the extent of what this guy has to say. Michael Stipe is "off-key." Eddie Vedder "mumbles." The Beach Boys write all their songs about cars and girls. Really--great stuff there, guy.

I think internet vitriol is just too predictable to be funny anymore. What this guy says about Oasis--"Britishness stripped down to its worst and most cynical cliches"--is pretty much what I'd say about him as a music writer, at least based on this piece. It's music journalism's equivalent to the supermarket tabloid.

Totally agree. I'm not offended, but it's shoddy, crap faux 'journalism'. As usual, I hope this guy didn't get paid. I know plenty of writers who don't get paid and would wipe the floor with this guy (and hundreds of other Internet 'reviewers').

You guys are right (especially Harmless!) but I just can't bring myself to be bothered by this article. It's a stupid "humorous" piece with all the journalistic integrity of a MAD Magazine movie parody.

That picture looks like the love child of Adam Duritz and Eddie Vedder

I'm not offended by this article in the least, other than it's stupid and the writer tries to be funny but fails. If you hate PJ, I could really care less, but give me something other than what they were criticized for 20+ years ago. Listen to the Vitalogy -> Binaural stretch, then make a judgement on this band. Hating them for Ten, and the sterotypes tells me you know nothing about them.

I'm not one for censoring, but I appreciate it when Kat locks those. It stops alot of clicks on the articles, and crazy anti-(insert particular writer or publication here) rants. They often deserve it, but the more attention that gets paid to shitty writing like that the more it happens.
