These were all awful.

I played both discs of the "PJ20" soundtrack last week, which, apart from the Vic bootleg and a haphazard spin of "No Code" a few days ago, was pretty much the only Pearl Jam I listened to all summer. It sounded great, both discs from beginning to end--mongrel-ish, disjointed, juxtaposing some of the band's most public moments against some of their most private, some of their most ragged against some of their most pristine. I wonder if this album wouldn't have been received differently divorced from the hype surrounding the film, released instead quietly as a kind of "bootleg series" type thing. There seems little rhyme or reason behind some of the selections, but taken exclusively on its own I'm compelled by the picture it paints, by the wide net it casts and the associations it forces you to draw on your own. Most of my favorite compilation records are this way.

I had presumed he was talking about the film, I hadn't thought about the CD.

(But I wasn't too crazy about that either - though the 1995 live songs were exciting.)

What's the point of PJ doing anymore of anything. They clearly peaked with the b-side of their 2nd single.

PJ should tell us to fuck off. Stop pleasing or trying so hard to do what you think pleases the fans. Take a chance again. Get over trying to be u2.

There are a few things that really keep the shows selling out. Amoungst them:

1.) Seniority/10c seats. They have fucked this up with the lotto, but can't go back now.
2.) The StatTracker crowd. Not the app itself, that thing is awesome, but what it represents in terms of the setlists and what fans want to hear.

As exhausting as it may be for them, they chose to hook us like crack dealers, and now they gotta keep the supply flowing or it's all over.

One of them. It gives younger pups like myself a chance to see the band much closer.
