Here is the link to my final portfolio (most of the pics) - I left out the bad ones.
Several notes:
-It was my first photo class, so some of the prints/pictures/compositions are admittedly bad or boring, although there are a few I quite like too
-"Almost Providence" as been altered with the HP scanning program, and it was not included in my final portfolio. The middle was complete blown-out white and it did not look good, so I just decided to fuck with it
-the two black prints are "solarizations," as in they've been partially developed prints, exposed to pure white light from the enlarger, and then developed again. Pretty cool eh? The guitar one, is admittedly, an obvious rip-off of another piece of art I greatly admire
-all my pictures are shot using a 35mm manual camera....black and white film. Mainly Ilford HP5 and Kodak TriX
Please feel free to compliment, criticize, tell me your favorites, anything is welcome.

Wow. I'm impressed. The composition is quite good on most of the images. Only your portrait seems a bit distant. ( I mean "4-57PM" , "Indian summer" I do not concern to be a portrait as such).
But mostly great pictures. "The ancient tree" is definitely my favourite.

And this whole time I thought you said you hated this class...
I liked these a lot Matt. I know nothing about photography, but I'm always fascinated by how black and white can take any subject matter and add some depth to it that you don't notice otherwise. I particularly liked the "almost Providence" one, and the one with the woman wearing the cap looking away from the camera, but I really couldn't tell you why, just those were stand outs for me.

they're really good, especially for a first-timer.
my only suggestion, if you continue with it, is not to center your subjects all the time. by putting them on the left or right, it creates extra "movement" in the photo, where applicable.
