No, it all matters. But I'm not going to waste my time with people who havent even finished it. Barely even a quarter of it.

The movie was already way ahead of you.

Yeah, I like to be challenged to. This isn't challenging. It's just an unmitigated mess that lacks subtlety - there's nothing challenging about it. It begs the question as to what you found to be challenging AT ALL! Pretending that the movie was "already way ahead of you" is utterly absurd. I'm a fan of plenty of "intellectually stimulative movies."

This isn't one of them. This is nothing but hackneyed, uninteresting, painfully slow, disjointed, pretentious bullshit, fed to people who are trying to do nothing but build their street cred amongst the crowd that's trying to prove they're love of "challenging movies". It's like the Sufjan Stevens of movies; so forced, phony, and detached that it's impossible to enjoy and do anything other than laugh at.

But yeah, keep trying to flatter yourself. Just like all those Sufjan Steven's fans listening to garbage just to build their hipster cred.
Barely even a quarter of it.
Holy fuck, people actually sat through another almost 3/4s of this? Wow.

I might have been able to get through if it wasn't so hyped up as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The first part of the movie is awful, let alone the greatest thing since sliced bread, so I felt completely let down and disappointed by it. I seem to be enjoying movies more when I go in with low expectations and seeing something decent than expecting a great flick and getting one that isn't.

I don't think it's the best movie of last year, let alone the greatest thing since sliced bread. But it's far from hackneyed or pretentious. In fact, one of the great things about the movie is it's sheer lack of pretension. This thing is so honest. It's wearing its heart on its sleeve. It's brutal. If it was a little more pretentious it would be easier to watch.

However it is slow and disjointed, so I'll give you those. But neither slow nor disjointed are a bad thing in this case. If fact, the film has to be disjointed. That's part of the story, part of the necessity of the experience. And it's a better movie for it.

The only part of the narrative - yes, even the dinosaurs! - that I didn't like and thought needed to be reworked was all the Sean Penn stuff. The movie might be better if you cut him out. But I need to see it again. The movie is ahead of me on that score.

How am I flattering myself? Because I liked and understood it? How is that flattery? Does this have something to do with that crack Rocky about my monocle? Would it help if I told you I don't wear a mustache?

Jesus christ you've become a parody of yourself LW. You realize that "ZOMG! Pitchfork hipsters!!!" hasn't been a valid argument against something since 2008? How can you criticize a movie you didn't watch?

Don't you think you might have got through it if you ignored how hyped up it was, and if you didn't need a movie to be the greatest thing since sliced bread? Who are you listening to to make your movie judgments for you?

The point of bringing up something is dated is to show you that nobody will care about this movie in five years because it's actually awful.

Show us? Like, that's objective fact is it? Is something good because it's remembered? That excludes anything 'good' that may have been lost to history, and also anything which is remembered for being good when it actually isn't, like the Titanic movie. I don't really care what gets 'remembered', I kind of make my own decisions about what I like and find memorable.

Also, he's completely wrong. Neither Malick nor any of his films are likely to be forgotten anytime soon.

Also, you can't call something dated (or timeless) or awful (or brilliant) if you haven't, you know, seen it. Even a monocle-less person could see that!

I wish internet user: Majestic-12 [Bot] would weigh in on this so we could finally put this to bed!

This is like arguing with my brother. He feels he's an authority on every subject, and it's painful for me to sit by and listen to it all

I highly doubt that. You see, I have it on good authority that the film is unwatchable.

The secret to watching this is to look at it through a mirror. See a reflection of yourself in the film.

Does it sink up with Dark Side Of The Moon when you do it that way?
