Lewis was a great character. He could be very funny, but he wasnt a token comedy character like Munch was either. He had lots of serious stuff that was really good too.

Never watched when aired, but enjoying this show on disc. I was bummed when Jon Polito didn't show up on season 3's opening credits. Apparently, NBC wanted to "pretty" the show up. Casting changes beside, this show is incredibly addicting.

Half way thru season 3. I like how the writers kept Crosetti a viable character for the first half of the season. The "honor guard" scene was as moving as anything I've seen on the small screen. By today's standard, it's hard to believe there was ever a dramatic show of this quality on network television.

Watching the last disc of season 3 and thinking the show had plateaued, I was knocked over by The Gas Man. The episode went against all the rules for a "successful" cop show. The casting of Bruno Kirby opposite Richard Edson was brilliant. The bar was set pretty high here.
