Great flick. Has some moments of super-violence, but that's definitely not all it has going for it. Really fun and interesting, although I'm not sure I get all of the stuff that they were playing with. Also, let me take this opportunity to recommend this director's last movie: Valhalla Rising.

The music was one of the things I didn't quite understand. I've read some interviews that seem to indicate it is central to the movie, but I just found it annoying by the end. That first song is somewhat grating.

no way! love the music. The movie mirrored 1980's crime movies. I think it was nostolgia more than anything. And I'm okay with that. I particularly like the first one after I read Gosling in an interview say that "Drive" was his superhero movie, because he had turned down superhero movies in the past. And now I love that song in the movie. And it adds to atmosphere. Love it.
id even make a case for 80's slasher flicks. Gosling a psychopath, basically, and a lown angle shot of him gripping the hammer. Always a trademark look for old school slasher films. Him with the scary stunt driver mask on the beach
this movie is fucking badass. i'd only give it a 6.5/10 but ryan gosling plays the ultimate guy's badass dream. worth seeing just for the driving and action and i'm not even into driving and action movies.

I thought it was a little slow and the plot was a bit lame. Also, Gosling was too much like Arnold in Commando. It wasn't all that believable how badass he was.

Slow is why I liked it. Loved the atmosphere it created. The editing didn't make it look as if it was having a seizure (Fast and the Furious)
And I couldn't disagree more about Gosling and his character. He was by all means a psychopath. More in communion with Deniro in Taxi Driver than anywhere near Arnold in Commando.

did you see it?
Yes. I thought the conversations had too many long awkward pauses and the relationships between the characters felt forced. Don't ask me to explain further, because I don't know that I could. Just the feeling I got from it.
