I've been watching a lot of these. I guess I'm a sick bastard, or a patriot, or both.

The best ones I've seen so far, listed by war:

Crusades: Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut since the original cut sux)

Revolutionary: Haven't seen a good one yet, Patriot sucks.

Civil: Glory.

WWI: Paths of Glory

WWII: Saving Private Ryan, Downfall, Schindler's List

Vietnam: Apocalypse Now Redux, Full Metal Jacket

Discuss some of your favorites so that I may queue them.

They're saying the companion piece Letters from Iwo Jima (directed also by Eastwood but from the Japanese side of FooF) is much better than Flags, but that both improve on each other. I'd like to wait for these to both be out at the same time, maybe a boxed set or something. I've always found Eastwood's pacing painful, but having decapitations in the movies might help me overcome that.

although it probably won't qualify as a war movie as much as the ones you've mentioned so far; The Great Escape. i love that one.

I usually don’t enjoy war movies due to their over-the-top nationalism and drum beating patriotism but Glory is such an important and well-done film. Morgan Freeman’s character is the Man.

I'll also throw in Black Hawk Down, though it's not about a certain war but an isolated incident in Somalia in 1993.

I forgot about We Were Soldiers. Good call. But BHD isn't a Desert Storm movie, it's about Somalia.

Three Kings is a good movie for the DS backdrop.

"Casualties of War" (Vietnam) is a great movie.

Sean Penn is amazing as always, and Michael J. Fox holds his own.

ww2- kelly's heroes, the dirty dozen, catch-22, the big red one, stalag 17

vietnam- go tell the spartans, jacob's ladder, hamburger hill, tigerland(i guess it's more based around infantry training than the actual war, but cole hauser is fucking awesome in this movie)

i'd also recommend 'hearts and minds' if you want to see an amazing documentray about the vietnam war.

I don't think I'd classify Jacob's Ladder as a war movie.

I really can't see how anyone could even tolerate the Redux version of AN.

yeah i was kind of on the fence with that one. in my own defense, i haven't seen jacob's ladder since i was 15. i just remembered some scene with tim robbins running through the jungle. either way, it's a good movie.
