ScoreKeeper On Many Things John Williams!! His Return To HARRY POTTER & More!!

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here after a long summertime absence to bring you a bit of news from God himself.

Recently, John Williams gave a lecture at the Berkshire Museum and shed a brief blade of light on his future. After an exhausting 2005 (WAR OF THE WORLDS, STAR WARS EPISODE III, MUNICH, MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA), Williams has taken a break from the rigors of film scoring but will soon be back in full force with a number of geek-gushing scores.

With Spielberg’s LINCOLN (2009) and the FOURTH INDIANA JONES INSTALLMENT (2008) already confirmed, Williams is reported to have said that he will be on as the composer for HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS (2010). For many fans who felt the series took a step backwards once Williams left the franchise this should come as welcome news. THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (2004) has been widely heralded not only as the best HARRY POTTER score of the five but also as one of Williams’ better achievements since the turn of the millennium. I for one would welcome Williams on the podium for DEATHLY HALLOWS.

After months of rumors, Warner Bros. and the producers of the massively successful movies will announce Thursday that they plan to split "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," J.K. Rowling's seventh and final "Potter" novel, into two blockbuster films -- one to be released in November 2010 and the second in May 2011.

Where do you reckon the cut off point will be when the first movie ends?

Could be... perhaps Godric Hollow could be the final part of the first film?

if the last one was entitled the Order of the Phoenix and was the fifth film, the answer to your question is yes.

So....this means we get one film that is 99% camping in the woods? Thrilling.

This is one of the few books in the series I thought would benefit from film editing.

wow, too bad the last book was boring as hell and (like go_state mentioned) mostly consisted of Harry,Ron, and Hermione bitching at each other in a tent like some old married threesome that isn't nearly as interesting as you would think it would be.

Correct. They started shooting I think last November, so principal photography might even by now be finished.

I'm not sure how many of you know this, but British actor Stephen Fry has done all the voices in the reading for the audio books for the entire series. I know this because I only just started in with the actual books last summer (I'd seen all the movies), and I'm kind of a slow reader so I went the audio book route instead. I finished in maybe 4 months. And Fry, not surprisingly, does a fantastic job getting a lot very distinct voices down (his Hagrid almost sounds exactly like Robbie Coltrane's). Anyway I was thinking, since the movie series has done such a great job of employing a virtual who's who of revered British character actors along the way in so many roles, since there's only one movie left to be filmed (& so few new major supporting roles to be cast), how great it would be as a reward to Fry for doing the books that he could be cast as Luna's father, Xenophilious Lovegood. Wouldn't he be great as him? Of course, thinking of him, with being such a House fan I'd also love to see Hugh Laurie in there before it's all finished, but I'm not sure who he could play.

Anyway, I'm officially starting my campaign now. Stephen Fry as Papa Lovegood

Hmm... Fry could be a good Xeno Lovegood. He could certainly do the bumbliness of the character well.

Well a specific date for Part 1 of The Deathly Hallows has now surfaced, it will be in theatres on November 19th, 2010, almost exactly two years after The Half-Blood Prince.

Now, I realize the doubts that many people harbor about David Yates remaining as the director, but for what it's worth, let's remember that at the very least we've got the great Steve Kloves back on the adaptation side (OOTP is the one book he took off of those duties) so that's a major plus. I mean I say let's see what we think of Yates' handling of HBP before we completely vilify him, again especially considering that Kloves wrote this one, too. (and though he's absent for HBP, John Williams will return to score both parts of TDH)

Looks like Rhys Ifans has been cast as Xenophilious Lovegood for the DEATHLY HALLOWS film, eccentric father to Luna Lovegood.

Image

I'm rather disappointed by this, and not even so much for Ifans specifically (though he does seem a bit young for the role) but more because I'd really been hoping for awhile that they'd find a way to get Stephen Fry into this film series once and for all, and with only the one movie left to go, Xeno seemed PERFECT for him. Not only because Fry is obviously a great actor, but I thought they'd want to as a thank you for him having done such a great job with the audio book version of the whole series. Listening to him is how I experienced all the books and I absolutely loved it.
