Bought Post Office.. this is the first Bukowski I've ever read.

Am I missing something? I like it, but it seems to be lacking in something. I'm not aware of how much praise he got for being a writer.. was he celebrated?

If anything, I can see where Palanhiuk gets his style.

I've never read Post Office, but I know what you mean when you say Bukowski seems to be "lacking something". Most of his work has a certain spareness and lack of embellishment that makes it almost uncomfortable at first. My only advice is to read further.

Also, you may want to read Ham On Rye next. I think it's semi-autobiographical, and gives a lot of insight into Bukowski. I'd also reccomend his poetry collection Dangling in the Tournedefortia.

Is Post Office autobiographical?

If so, what a prick.

Never read it, but he's a sonufabitch in Ham On Rye too.

I liked Post Office quite a bit. The guy was certainly a prick, but not more than I could handle. Women was over the top, though. That guy was too much of a prick for me to enjoy reading about him. He was beyond prick. He was evil.

Pretty much every book is great. My favorites are Post Office, Notes of a Dirty Old Man, and The People Look Like Flowers at Last.
