Yes, there once was an "NYPD Blue" thread. I did a search for it thinking it would easily be found but it didn't pop up, so I clicked back 9 or 10 pages to find the thread and didn't see it.

Anyways, just wanted to pay tribute to a truly great show. I started watching the first season 12 years ago when I was just a kid. Tonight was the last episode; 12 awesome seasons came to an end. The writing was excellent and the acting was superb. I've never been a big fan of television, but I will definitely miss NYPD Blue.

One of the few shows I made an effort to watch each and every week and I'm sad to see it go. I think the writing was still good (especially in comparison to the dreck that populates the airwaves these days) and the acting maintained a high level throughout the 12 seasons. It seemed, to me, that the show got jerked around a lot from season 7 onward. Different nights and timeslots, strange premiere dates, etc. I think the show maintained a very loyal audience despite that, and is a credit to its quality.

It's amazing to think about this now, with the current state of television, but when the show premiered it was perhaps the most cutting edge show out there, particularly because it was on network television. It was like if The Sopranos were suddenly on NBC instead of premium cable. Now it seems every show has ripped off the shaky camera style and hard-edged "adult" content that NYPD Blue brought to network TV. Whatever your opinion of the show now, I think you have to recognize the impact NYPD Blue had on broadcast television because of that. (Not to mention its impact upon South Park.)

Apparently CSI: Miami qualifies as a "hit" but Caruso never recovered from leaving NYPD Blue. What a jerk.

Now we get another show about a blind dude triumping against all odds. I'm probably wrong, but hasn't this show been done 862 times already?

I was a huge fan of the show until the three epsisode death scene for Bobby Simone. (Jimmy Smits) After that I was never a fan of Rick Schroeder or the current cast. I watched from time to time. I enjoyed Esai Morales as the Squad Captain, but as is the case when too many familiar characters leave, the show suffers.


Overall, this was a significant achievement in TV history. They pushed the bounds of what can be shown on regular tv every week and for that and the tremendous acting and writing, NYPD Blue will alsways be a great show.

I've just started watching reruns of Blue on TNT in the last couple of years, and I really wish I had watched from the beginning. Sipowicz has to be one of the best characters in television drama history. My dad is a big fan and always tried to get me to watch, and now I wish I had. Oh well, at least it's still in syndication.

I watched it last night. Been watching every week for about 10 years now. It's a shame the show is ending, and that Jaqueline Obradors never got naked. Yet another show that i've lost in my weekly TV routine. At least Family Guy is coming back

i agree with PJ Addict...once Jimmy Smits died....that was it for me....couldn't see "little ricky" or "zack morris" in such a serious role....

I thought they both did pretty well. I think most critics took issue because the characters were so different from Caruso and Smits.
