how does everyone feel about needing cheats now to solve games, or to even get to the next level?

things have come a long way since atari's adventure

I do like the walkthroughs. They help me out sometimes. Cause I can get frustrated too easily and just a little bit of guidance from someone can go along way.

I'm personally against them for your initial playthrough of a game. I love the challenge the developers set in front of me. I have no problem with other people using them, since not everyone is as skilled as others in games. It's just a personal rule I follow. After completing a game, a strategy guide is a cool thing to have. You can go back and do things you missed out on the first time. Of course not everyone has the patience to go through games multiple times, but from my perspective it enhances replay value.

Exception to the rule: If I'm absolutely stuck in a game and I have no alternative, I'll look through a FAQ to see what I have to do. I rarely have to do this, but it's occured before in games which don't make it even slightly obvious where you have to go.

One last note, I'm almost completely against buying actual strategy guides. I just don't think they're worth the cost. I go to GameFAQs.com if I need help. There's a huge FAQ writing community there of users who'll volunteer hundreds of hours to make a FAQ for a single game. Some of these FAQ authors are quite good, surpassing some of the official publications.

I only use the walkthrough as a last result.
