I rented this last night because I was tired of hearing all the innuendo jokes about it without actually knowing what people were talking about

Reynolds' character was absolutely laughable. He goes from Grizzly Adams outdoor adventure man to sniveling bitch really quick. He was just god-awful. Had he not been in the movie, it would have been much better. His character was completely unnecessary to the true feeling of the picture. Bad bad bad.
Overall it was pretty good I suppose. Still curious to know if the one guy was actually shot or was just in shock.

That's Reason #1 why I don't really want to see it. "Squeal like a pig" would be #2.

You've seen worse. It's fucked up, but not as bad as you'd think.
It's also just a small scene, the aftermath is what the movie is really about.

I've seen it. Late 70's I think maybe early 80's. Not bad. I have seen worse.

It's pretty tame by today's standards..... overall the movie isn't that good, more shock value than anything.

It was released in 1972 and stars Burt Reynols, Jon Voight, and Ned Beatty.

I find this movie inseperable from two other movies from that era, Midnight Cowboy, and Easy Rider. All three have very similar cinematography and dark themes that all leave you with a kind of empty feeling inside at the end. They're all great movies, but they're also not the kind of films you want to see over and over again.

Of the three, Deliverence is probably the weakest, but still very much worth seeing.

My parents make those jokes all the time, and we never have any idea what they're on about. Like on past road trips, driving through backwater middle of nowhere places "this is like deliverence country" "you could hide a body there and no-one would ever find it"
yup, my mum sure knows how to reassure her youngins'
