3. 8.9 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) 96,833 - Don't like LOTR at all.
4. 8.8 The Godfather: Part II (1974) 68,829 - Good, but not up to par with Part I.

10. 8.7 Citizen Kane (1941) 59,486 - Visually spectacular.
23. 8.5 Psycho (1960) 51,959 - Very intriguing, but not executed well.
30. 8.5 It's a Wonderful Life (1946) 40,882 - VERY overrated. Don't like it at all.
33. 8.4 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) 40,385 - Good, but Adaptation and Being John Malkovich are both better.
36. 8.4 Vertigo (1958) 33,550 - Overrated. I'm not a fan of Hitchcock.

I totally agree Lord of the Rings movies blow...

but godfather II is definitely up to par with 1, amazing commentary on capitalism being the fall of the american family

Citizen Kane is a lot more than Visually spectacular, that movie's story is unreal how great it is, if all you see is the visuals your missing sooo much of the movie

It's a wonderful Life lives up to everyone of it's good ratings and then some

as far as phsyco that movie is more well executed than most of the movies on the list... and vertigo that movie is amazing, watch it again and think of it as autobiographical in that it's about Hitchcock trying to create a new grace kelly and you should see it in a new light

sorry some of the comments frustrated me, most i agree wuth

I really don't understand why Shawshank REdemption is #2. Its a good movie, but #2? I wouldn't even put it in my top 50 i don't think.

I do disagree with you on a few things. For instance, IMO:
Bride of Frankenstein kicks ass.
Lord of the Rings kicks ass.
Casablanca kicks ass.
Raiders of the Lost Ark kicks its sequels' asses.
Psycho kicks ass.
Vertigo kicks ass.
Taxi Driver kicks ass.
Alien kicks ass.
Finding Nemo kicks ass.
Blade Runner kicks ass.
The Incredibles kicks ass.
Unforgiven kicks ass.
Shrek bites.

But at least you like Lost in Translation.

Good luck in your quest to watch all of those movies.

There's no excuse for Shrek being anywhere near that list.

Oh yes, "visually spectacular" was just the condensed version. It's an excellent film.

I'm sorry, but this is just not how life really is. Is ridiculously optimistic point of view irritates me.

I thought it was great right up until the point where the detective explained every thing at the end. That pissed me off. I just saw the fucking move, I don't need him to waste ten minutes explaining everything. It just seemed like it was aimed at stupid people.

Oh yeah. My mistake. Michael Myers as a Scottish ogre or monster or whatever he's supposed to be is right up there with Citizen Kane.

well hitchcock was always sure that he made his films for his audience, he knew that that's what movies are for, they are for entertaining the audience, he didn't want to loose them... back then scitzophrenia was less common in movies than it has been, people weren't as knowledgable on the subject... it wasn't close to 10 minutes either

Yeah, it's the highest voted movies by all members of IMDB.

And that's probably one of the main reasons I don't like him.

It sure fucking felt like it. Most redundant scene ever.

All threee LOTRs in the top 11????

It's a great series, but not nearly as good as say, Star Wars IV-VI (at 9, 14, and 140 (and that's WAY WAY too low for Jedi)). Suffice to say, that alone makes me question this list.

And I couldn't find one Tim Burton movie in there. If Spiderman 2 can make the cut, Batman Returns at the very least should make the cut.

EDIT: After closer inspection, I found Big Fish and Ed Wood in the hundreds somewhere. Ed Wood should be in the top 100.

at the risk of being a douche, the preponderance of "N/A"'s on your list makes me feel as though you may've better spent the time making that list watching a film such as the good, the bad, and the ugly or 12 Angry Men, or Seven Samurai, just to name a few.

as for whoever asked how those get to be top 250, i believe it is all on user rankings, hence stuff like LOTR and star wars being ranked much higher than it deserves to be and also (imo) a tendency for the list to lean towards more recent films at the expense of better-crafted films from several years ago.
