What was the deal with the picture of the dragon and the "great becoming"? I never understood that.

The dragon is his alter ego/split personality. He keeps killing to sate the desire of said dragon. The "becoming" is the gradual merge of Dolarhyde and the Dragon into one being. Apparently, this is accomplished by eating a painting. Magical, yes.

He actually ate the painting to try to silence his alter ego because he was in love with whatshername and the Dragon saw her as a threat, but yeah.

Yeah that is what I figuired to. He was trying to kill the dragon by eating the painting.
