My girlfriend keeps trying to get me to watch this. Am I correct in it's a spoof on zombie movies?
Not exactly.
It's the third movie in the "Evil Dead" series (I haven't actually seen the first one) and it's spoofing all the horror/action genre cliches and it's also a big homage to the Three Stooges. So expect a ridiculous slapstick movie.
Even if you haven't seen any Evil Dead movies, watch AOD. It is fucking awesome. Hilarious and inspired.

It's not necessary to see the previous Evil Dead movies, but I'd highly recommend at least seeing Evil Dead 2 before AOD. It makes more sense that way (if that's possible).

I still haven't seen The Evil Dead, and I gotta say, I feel like I was missing a bit from Evil Dead II.

You gotta check out Evil Dead! An absolute horror classic in every way. The funny thing is though, the backstory changes every time in the sequels and none of it is quite what happened in Evil Dead. It's close enough but I always thought it was funny that they changed things up a little bit each time they re-tell the story.

I have probably seen this movie 20 times. It never gets old. I'm not a fan of the Bootleg edition, it cuts out some pretty good lines. At least the "Boomstick Edition" incorporates both.
