I tried a search and got 12 pages of results, nothing with "Horror Movies" in the title on the first few pages, so I'm starting a new one.

I'm DESPERATELY looking for someone to recommend a horror movie to me that will F me up. I'm looking for something that will disturb the shit out of me and give me bad dreams. I've never found that movie, and its pissing me off. Everything (save The Ring) that I've seen in the last 10 years has been shit. Please save your comments on The Ring, thats not what this thread is about...

I'm looking for something, anything, that scares the shit out of me. I tried several movies recently that have done absolutely nothing for me. What really scares me is Jesus/God/Devil/Religious type shit...or kids that act like they know what time it is. I've never seen the exorcist if you can believe that, but I plan on seeing it soon. Other than that, can I please get some suggestions?
Love,
Me

there's a movie called Mr. Frost with Jeff Goldblum, it wasn't gory, but it was pretty freaky and had to do with the devil.

Just for your benefit, the other horror movie thread is here (you might hear about something good there):

http://www.theskyiscrape.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1683

And if you're looking for any of these new Japanese remakes to scare you then I think you're looking in the wrong place. The only thing that scared me about the Grudge was how awful it was. Anyway, movies affect people in different ways and what is frightening is probably one of the most subjective things there is, so who knows if any of these will do it for you.

For religious/cult type stuff I'd recommend Rosemary's Baby, it's a classic. Other than that:

High Tension - doesn't come out until next month but it's awesome
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - not the stupid remake either. The original crazy cannibal from hell story
Suspiria - As pretty as any Lynch picture and creepy as hell
Session 9 - Not very well known but a really good ghost/psychological type horror movie, very cool
Dead Alive - Over the top gore and violence at it's best, early Peter Jackson movie
Last House on the Left - One of Wes Craven's early pictures, not at all pleasant to watch. Should give anyone nightmares.
Night of the Living Dead - original zombie movie, still awesome
Hellraiser - not really that scary in my opinion, but the Cenobites freak some people out. Good movie.

If you want something just completely fucked up like exploitation flicks then let me know, but I'm assuming based on what you said you had seen that you're probably not wanting to go there just yet.

Get the rerelease of the Exorcist. Crabwalk is awesome!!!!
As previously stated, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is about as good as it gets.

Hard to recommend anything though as I haven't been scared by a movie since I was a pre-teen. I'm way too desensitized and warped to be frightened or shocked by anything.

You can still recommend stuff that would scare other people though. I could count the number of movies that have truly frightened me on one hand, and without knowing the reasons why they did it just wouldn't make any sense here. There are lots of movies I like that fucked up the people I watched them with though.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is quite simply the most disturbing and horrifying movie ever made.

the ending screws up the scaryness.

laugh at me if you will, but the first time i saw the blair witch project it scared the shit out of me, but in my defense the was a big rumor at the time that it was real, that they found the footage and just remade everything that was on the tapes

Blair Witch was definitely a better movie if you caught it before it got over-hyped and the truth about the origin came out. When I saw it I was under the impression that it at least loosely based on an actual legend of the Blair Witch, but alas, no. They did a good job of building that hype and illusion though.
