Just as perfect as a 3d game can be. I love the magma stage, the 2nd snow one, all three bowser stages are genial.

The clock one is annoying in a good way.

And who never tried to make suicidal shortcuts in the penguin race of the first snow stage?

haha. love those suicidal shortcuts. it was beautiful when it worked though!

the only thing that i really dislike about this game is the camera angles. i can't tell you how many times i've run off a narrow walkway, or have been struggling to find that last red coin but can't see over a ledge because the camera is so fucking quirky. i guess it was part of the 3D learning curve for companies in the mid-nineties (especially on a game with an open world concept) so i can't be too critical, and good on the developers taking a negative like the crappy camera angles, and working it into some of the tasks (like the 8 red coin task inside the pyramid - you can't see any of the platforms you're trying to jump to :x ).

This is easily one of the best games for the N64. Eclipsed only by Goldeneye.

it's still fun as hell, if that's what you mean. obviously it looks like a game that was released in 1996.

I think I got this game for my birthday in 1998. I beat it with 120 stars in about 4 days. I would get home from school and play it from 3:30 to 11:00 with only stopping for food and the bathroom. I've haven't done that for any other game. It's that good. :nice:

I was also about 12 at the time so I didn't really have anything else to do.

I have it on my Wii VC, but I've been spoiled by Super Mario Galaxy. :P

I've only done that will a few games:
Zelda
Goldeneye 64
Halo
Dead Rising

And Call of Duty 4 online is a pretty unhealthy addiction right now.
