I'm going to be buying a new car stereo, and I am considering getting one that is satellite radio ready. The question is which service would you guys recommend? I'm leaning towards XM because they have ACC and Big Ten football and basketball, the Phil Hendrie Show, and Radio 1's Essential Mix. The reasons I would consider Sirius instead would be Howard Stern and the NFL package. Other than that, I hardly know what else is available with each service. I have looked at the channel lineups, but I was wondering how much variety is really available on their stations. Any insight would be appreciated. :P

XM.

MLB is far more important on radio than the other sports (nfl games you're probably already watching on TV).

and howard is now a hack- and from what i hear has 10 weeks of vacation, and only works 4 days a week when he gets to sirius.

I've had XM since October. I got it for Opie and Anthony but even if they left I would keep it.
Sattelite radio kicks ass over commercial radio. No edits, no commercials and kick ass music.

A dude at work originally had XM radio and switched over to sirius because of Howard.
About a month after he switched he said that the programming on XM was much better.
I'm hearing this second hand so I don't know if it's true or not.
I do know that XM does kick ass, O&A or not.

I got XM a couple days before i heard about the NFL thing, and was initially bummed....

then i thought about it- 4 game times a week
1 Monday Night- On TV and Radio
1 Sunday Night- On TV and Radio
2 Sunday day games- one of which is probably featuring my local team on TV and Radio.

Unless you live out of your teams market, the NFL thing is kinda pointless.

I bought Sirius strictly for the NFL. My team (obvious by looking at my avatar) is out of my area. I team up my Sirius radio with my DirectTV w/Tivo and the NFL Sunday Ticket to get the home town broadcast of my team while watching the game on TV. I use the Tivo to match up the audio from the radio with the TV and I can tell you that it KICKS ASS!!!!

I have friends who have XM and they enjoy it. I think that what was said earlier is true. The music chanells are probably a wash. If you like Howard, then go Sirius, if youlike O&A then go XM.....

anyone know when the federal mandate goes in to affect that all satellite radios have to accept both XM and Sirius signals?

My brochure says its channel 202, but you have to pay an extra $1.99/month for it. I think that is lame.

No you don't, it's now included with the basic charge.
You must be looking at an old brochure.

I have XM and have had it for over a year. I love it. Rarely do I listen to local anything. MLB is great. Don't listen to O&A. A friend at work has both. Says he likes XM better. Go with XM.

I guess Sirius would be the better choice for you then.

yes. i recommend the myf from XM- if you the right deal, you can get it for $179 (hey, what a coincidence, i can get you the right deal). it can record up to 5 hours, and be used as a walkman, and it also comes with a home kit (with remote) that hooks up in your stereo...and a car kit.. which uses either your tape deck or FM modulator.
