i don't know many people who listen to the radio anymore - it's either satellite, internet radio, or mp3 player...
I listen to NPR and the college stations from UNC and NCSU. Of course, none of those compete in a free market.

I too like XMU. I wish they would have kept channel 65, the rhyme. I usually listened to that at the gym.
I do love having E Street Radio now, though. I was also bummed when they switched out Lucy with Lithium, but the "new" channel isn't bad at all.

i don't know what's different exactly about XMU, it just is... it may just be the dj's, but the programming seems a smidge more... ? can't describe it.

XM Canada subscriber here. In Canada there has been no merger, but pretty much all the programming is a carbon copy of XM USA. I have found the music is not as good now with SIRIUSXM. Seems to be alot more repetition, and way more talk. Basically the playlists seem shorter. I liked Ethel more than AltNation and Squizz more than Octane. I miss The Rhyme and its replacement Shade45 is just brutal. Things do seem to have gotten better lately but there is still a ways to go. I am a big fan of the new channels to XM - Jam On, E-Street Radio, Grateful Dead Radio and Underground Garage.
