So who else loves this game? Nothing better than punching numbers on a keyboard until you were either told "You have died of dysentery" or you reached California.

I've been searching for an online version. Closest I've encountered was at http://www.virualapple.com, but it wasn't quite the exact game I remembered. Mainly the hunting was different. I remember animals running across the screen and I would merely have to punch the space bar, none of this aiming and walking. Anyone know where to find the old, old version where "Indians approaching...Circle the wagons!" was an option?

I've got an old big-ass floppy disk version floating around somewhere. A true classic.

i think there are quite a few versions of this game.

remember how terrible it was when you were trying to float your wagon across a river (so as not to lose 40 dollars and 4 days by waiting for the barge) and your stupid cattle drowned? fuck, that would always piss me off. i'd always be so angry at the game when it killed me that my tombstone would always read something like "this sucks"

yet, i love this game.

Then when you played again and you saw that tombstone, you laughed.

I started making funny family names,

it wasn't float, it was caulk. that always made me laugh.

i hated how you could shoot a buffalo, but you could only carry 99 lbs. back to the wagon.

I have very fond memories of playing that game in school.

the computers we had when I was at the school were still the old apple computers. They got rid of them for new computers the year after I went to middle school. We had to play that on the big floppy discs that were like 4 times the size of floppy discs now. Me and my friends would always put our names in for the characters and try to kill each other off. But we'd also get rewarded if we beat the game

good times.

I would have thought you would be good at it, seeing as you are familiar with the areas of the US, Eastern Europe, and most of Asia Minor.
