I was thinking maybe I'd like to read the next Potter book, but the last one didn't do much for me, .... I'm thinking maybe I'll borrow someone's copy rather than buy one. In the past each one I purchased after having read it was donated to the library; I don't really have a reason to keep them.

Anyone else "burnt" on the series? I think I'm pretty much done with the books.

When Richard Harris died, I was pretty much done with the films.

Am I alone in this?

The LOTR films just simply blew most everything out of the water for me, and I have way way Way high expectations of my future film experiences now.... I don't know if I'll ever get my butt to a movie theater again.

I still haven't seen Sin City (and I love Frank Miller).

I'm pretty sure I"m officially "old".

The fifth book really disappointed me, as well. I'm a bit biased because she bumped off one of my two favorite characters, but I also didn't like all that Harry had to go through in that one.

So yeah, I'm a bit burnt out as well, but I'll still get the next one.

I enjoyed the last one. Personally I liked Goblet of Fire overall, but I'm still interested in the ongoing story. Rowling is a great writer.

not even close to burnt out..i felt the Order of the Phoenix is the second best of the series, behind the Prisoner of Azkaban..i can't wait for the new one

as far as the movies go, i thought POA was the best so far..i did like Richard Harris as Dumbledore..but the new guy, who's name is completely escaping me now, is more like the Dumbledore of the books if you ask me

I think the books just keep getting better. I enjoy the dark mood that inevitably appeared in the most recent novel. I'm anxiously awaiting the next in the series and will probably have it fully read in a day or two.

As for the movies, I think it's becoming harder and harder for them to really pack in all the details the books have. That said, I thought the most recent film was by far the best. The cinematography alone was worth the cost of the ticket.

i can understand not liking how a plot unfolds, but 'order of the phoenix' is, by light years, the best book of the series thusfar. the only one even in the same league is the third book.

Michael Gambon is his name.

That's interesting because I thought Richard Harris was perfect (exactly what I had envisioned Dumbledore to be from reading the books, including his voice).

I think they didn't do enough with Dumbledore in the last film; that they took away the 1:1 dialog between he and Harry that was in the book out of the film, intentionally. I don't know why, I prefered it along with the extra discussions between the three kids in the "detective" sort of way they work things out together in the book; it seemed there was less of that dialog in the last film.

I enjoyed Order of the Phoenix--it was a different evil Haarry had to face, and as frustrating as it was for his character, bureaucracies in and of themselves can cause harm. I felt the book to be a way for Rowling to address the post-9-11 world with fanaticism, leaders blindly leading and using said bureaucracies to hide real problems.

As for how the heck will they get everything from books 4 & 5 into a movie is beyond me. So much happens in those two that even a three hour movie is going to be crammed full of info.

i like all the books. poa and gof are my favorite of the series. my only gripe with order of the phoenix is that umbridge character. its incredible that rowling was able to get the reader so pissed off at a character, but it goes on too long. i got tired of hating that bitch and all the shit she caused.

I'm waiting to see all the movies before I read the books. I really like the films, even if they have their lame moments. The world she created is a lot of fun. The third movie is by far the prettiest, but there are so many holes in the story, and the character development is lacking compared to the first two films. Plus watching the same events unfold twice in a row just got tiring. I imagine the book is much better. I hope the fourth manages to keep the style of the third film, but the storytelling of the first two.

That's funny because I always prefer to read the book(s) before seeing a film.

I'd like to see that as well, definately.

I'm a film buff, and more of a casual reader so it works more for me. Especially because books are typically better and more detailed then film adaptations so the movies often dissapoint. If you see the movie first you get the best of both worlds. I have never liked a movie I have seen after reading the book, but I always enjoy a book after I see the movie.

my thing with the third movie is that i can see how you wouldn't enjoy it as much if you hadn't read the book..which is why books are better than movies most of the time anyway

I completely agree. The third film is by far my favorite. Not that Columbus made bad films but the vision of Azkaban is what i always imagined the Potter Universe looking like.

the flipside to this argument is that movies can only serve to limit your imagination. for example, watch the shining and then read the book - you can't not picture jack torrance as jack nicholson

Yah, there was some stuff that you'd only know from reading the book.

It's funny that you should mention The Shining because while I usually never see horror films nor read horror books, I actually read the paperback for The Shining before seeing the film (and was terrified by both). I think I was more terrified by the book though, if memory serves.

I'm pretty certain I wouldn't enjoy the movies if I hadn't read the books first. Usually it's the exact opposite, I end up disliking the movie, but I like to catch the small things in the HP films that someone who hasn't read the books might not pick up.

now i have to reread book 5. it was the first one i was disappointed in. it just seemed like we were right where we were at the end of book 4. i am hooked though and will be sad when it's all over.

as for the movies, i like them all. 3 is probably the best, but i think i like the other 2 more, and this is going to sound really dumb, because they came out around the holidays.
