Ten years after the actual events, they created a motion picture about the genocide and a handful of heroes who did what they could to help people during those horrible times...
Let's hope that this movie, along with other books like Romeo Dallaire's "Shake hands with the devil" will help to keep this tragedy in the minds of people as an international failure...pretty much like what is happening in Darfur, at the moment.

I second!
please everyone see this film. it is so important for people to be informed about this most abhorrent of tragedies. I've heard that Don Cheadle's performance is top notch and if you are squeamish, there's not as much showing of the extreme atrocities.
also read the book: "We Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will be Killed With our Families."
long title, yes, but gut wrenching.
movie's out in ltd. release on Dec. 22. should be out everywhere the week after...I hope....

Have you read Dallaire's book, Yan? I just started it last night and I almost couldn't make it through the introduction... so gut-wrenching.

I just saw the preview for that movie and it really looks amazing. Since I have almost no idea about this conflict, it should be really interesting.
Is it out already?

I saw this film today, and it was really powerful. The main character was sort of the Schindler of Rwanda. Great acting all around, and it was horrible to see one "tribe" was attacking the other. It really got to me, and got me thinking about the pointless troubles I go through in my life.
Highly recommended.

I agree. It was a very good movie. Don Cheadle was excellent, and he probably gave a better performance than Jamie Foxx's Oscar-winning one.

I saw this last night. One of the most incredible parts is on the DVD, they have Don Cheadle speaking at the beginning to remind you that this exact same shit is going on in Darfur right now. I couldn't shake that thought through the whole movie. I cried hard at least 3 separate times during this movie.

May I also recommend Shooting Dogs to those who 'enjoyed' Hotel Rwanda.

Joe Connor (Hugh Dancy) is teaching in Rwanda during his gap year. When the school he teaches at becomes a haven for thousands of Rwandans fleeing the genocide, Joe promises his brightest pupil, Marie (Clare-Hope Ashitey), that the UN soldiers will protect her from the hordes of extremist militia baying for blood outside the school. But when the UN abandon the refugees, Joe and the school’s headmaster, Father Christopher (John Hurt), face an agonising dilemma: should they leave or should they stand firm with the Rwandans. As the UN trucks force their way through the terrified refugees, Joe stares at the tear-stained face of Marie: what should he do?
Based on real events and filmed at the actual location where this story took place, SHOOTING DOGS is an emotionally gripping, authentic and powerful recreation of a tragic real life story that took place during the Rwandan genocide in 1994.
