I just watched this movie and loved it. One of the better 2004 films I've seen so far. It didn't get nearly the attention it deserved, it seems to me, for a Hanks/Spielberg movie. Hanks gives one of his best performances in years, IMO, and Stanley Tucci is excellent, as well. The scene with the Russian man and the medicine, in particular, is amazingly acted. It gets a little contrived eventually and goes on a tad too long; it should've ended five or ten minutes before it did, I thought. But I really liked it.

agreed...very good movie...when it first came out, i thought, yeah i bet that's pretty good but didn't have a strong desire to see it, but i saw it last weekend, twice...tom hanks just makes every movie he's in that much better...the only part i thought was dumb was when the girl and the guy got married

Meh, it was OK. Tom Hanks was good, but it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be.

I really like this one. When Tom Hanks is in a movie he really becomes his character and I totally forget that he is Tom Hanks.

I finally saw this over the past weekend, and I really enjoyed it as well. I wasn't in any rush to see it, I'm shamed to admit. They seemed to advertise it as a romantic comedy, and from the reviews and previews I had read or seen, it didn't seem very interesting. I had to watch a few of the neighbors' girls on Saturday night, and they wanted to watch it on their On-Demand. I found it to be a delightful surprise.

I probably would have seen it eventually because I love Spielberg, and even more I love Spielberg paired with Tom Hanks. I think it was grossly underrated and that's perhaps the reason many people skipped this one. It's a shame, because it was very entertaining, humorous, and lovely.

Tom Hanks' performance was perfect - I agree with Auggie, it was his best in years. Tom Hanks can really make you sympathize with his characters. When you're watching him basically beating himself up trying to figure out what's playing on the news about his country, you wish you knew his language and could translate for him. I loved the character and the way he was played. Tom Hanks is still a genius of acting.

I'm really happy I saw it, because I really enjoyed the whole film.

well i didnt get it for christmas  , but when the price drops a little on it i might be able to afford it.
question to anyone who owns it, do you have the regular version or the 2 disk(i think) version thats like 30 bucks? because im wondering if there is anyhting really necessary on the 30 dollar one or if the regular version is all you need?

Much like Keanu Reeves and the Bill and Ted curse, I can't really get past Forrest Gump. There's not going to be a Tom Hanks performance that'll knock my socks off, ever again.

That being said, I thought this film was pretty rawk.

I think that Hanks is one of the top 2 or 3 actors in modern hollywood. I'd go as far to say he's developed into one of the top 10 all time.

And, while I enjoy Forest Gump, I kind of agree about his performance. But, I think he absolutely redeemed himself with The Green Mile and Saving Private Ryan. You can throw in Castaway for good measure...I can't picture any other actor pulling that movie off...
