I'm going to rent this this afternoon, I'm really excited, heard it was good.

It was okay. It was pretty funny sometimes.
I didn't watch them after, but my friend told me he thought the special features were actually better than the movie--lotsa stuff there I guess, other footage of different events surrounding the storyline and whatnot.

This movie made a great impression on me with the special effects and the great usage of the "28 Days Later" type zombies. The story wasn't there, but there was so much gore and so many zombies that the story didn't matter at all.
There's a lounge-lizard cover of "Down with the Sickness" that plays about halfway through the movie during a hilarious scene. I can't remember the last time I laughed that loud in a theatre.
Be sure and rent the unrated version. There's some extra gratuitious gore in that one, which is always good.
Have you seen the classic "Dawn of the Dead?" You'll have to watch it if you haven't already. Despite the slow moving and obviously poorly painted zombies, there's a much stronger story, a deeper sense of isolation and "armageddon," and genuine drama.

There's this 20-minute montage of news broadcasts as the zombie epidemic is spreading - an attempt, I guess, to show the collapse of the modern world, something that the original film did very well with just a handful of inserted segments in the actual movie. This little tidbit would have been wonderful if it was well-acted, but it wasn't. The broadcaster was nowhere near convincing.
Without spoiling too much, there's an excellent special feature that's a home video of the coolest guy in the whole movie, someone who's trapped in a gun shop. You don't get to see him a whole lot in the flick itself, which is a waste, because the guy can really fucking act. If you're going to check out any of the special features, catch this one.

That was indeed hilarious, and the scene that stands out most in my mind (along with the song!)
The CJ character is pretty entertaining too.

Yeah, CJ is great, and the redhead is fucking hot. That being said, though, I thought there were a bit too many superfluous characters in the film.

Could be edited down to 20 minutes of gore and packaged as a "inspired by" extra feature of the original Dawn of the Dead.
Go rent a classic Lucio Fulci's Zombie. There really isn't any point in making let alone discussing any other zombie movies after seeing this one. C'mon, a zombie fights a shark. A fucking shark! And it is real (pre CGI a la Deep Blue Sea).

This is a decent movie, though I'm kind of biased as the original is one of my favorite movies of all time, just a masterpiece. The new one is good, gory fun though, despite the lack of depth. I can't wait for Romero to come back with "Land of the Dead" though. Should be pretty awesome.
Also, definitely check out "Zombie" and the aforementioned shark scene. Fucking awesome.

It was a ridiculous disappointment.
If you're not expecting...you know...an actual PLOT...you won't be let down, but if you actually have any kind of desire to know how the zombies fucking became zombies...go rent Resident Evil instead.

Oh, I absolutely loved this film. Very entertaining, some great use of make-up. Very, very bloody.
