quite possibly the best cop show of all time.
I have recently got the first and second season off of netflix and forgot how amazing this show was.

and added bonus, the writers seem to have an odd grunge referance fetish- 2 consecutive episodes..
Killers name? Layne Staley
Victims name? Chris (very close) Noveselic

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post an appreciation for this series. Absolutely phenomenal show. Ended before its time in my opinion. How this show could not get the ratings is beyond me (yet they can have 6 Law & Orders on each week???).

If you haven't seen it get the series on dvd. NOW.

Excellent t.v. series. One of my all time favorite shows. Been thinking about picking this up on dvd soon.

The reason why Law and Order is so popular on syndication is its pretty nonsequential. The stories are so self contained, i could watch one from the last season, and one from the first and only wonder WHY the people are different- but i would still have a sense of the crime, the solution, the inevitable fuck up, the trial, the conviction- and im done. I never have to watch an episode again if i dont want to.

Homicide, on the other hand, is a charecter driven show. They really get you a lot more in depth into the Cops of the show. Hell, on the 5 the episode of the series it was just Pembleton and Bayliss doing an interrogation scene for an hour. There is also less of the technicality crap that plauges L&O. "Yes, we have a sane criminal who signed a confession in the presence of his attorney" that gets overturned because his attorney once ate a whole box of Trix at breakfast.

I wonder what happened to Andre Braugher, Kyle Secor, and lewis melnick. I liked them.

Pembleton and Bayliss were one of the best cop duos on TV. There really was no formula to this show other than the homicide count at the end of a show. One of my favorite episodes was when Pembleton is called down to the subway to investigate a crime. The victim is pinned between a car and the wall and isn't dead yet, and all through the episode, he's talking to the guy like nothing happened.

Good show and beats the crap out of L&O and CSI.

i loved the red ball cases... but here's a great question... did the crossover homicide/l&o eps get thrown on homicide dvds, or l&o dvds? whatever happened to those... this brings up another reason why crossover eps are cool, but when it comes to dvds, what happens to em.

Im not sure. thats a very good question. Im betting the obvious answer is the right one. TNT showed the crossover with Law and Order a couple weeks ago, and that what made me remember about the show. I was happy i did.

I beleive the first time i ever got into the show was the episodes where Bolander, Beau and someone else (corsetti?) all get shot by Steve Buscemi- and the interrogation scene with Braugher is epic.

I also agree that this show was just so great and an amazing tv show. I would watch it every week. I remember I didn't start watching it from the very beginning of the series but then later on got hooked.

There was a suspect named Vedder in another episode, I forget which one. Maybe in season four?

This was definitely one of the (if not "the") best shows on television when it aired. All seven season are very powerful and re-watchable. Some of my favorite episodes include "Three Men and Adena" (mentioned above by someone, it's the episode that's just an interigation), "The Gas Man," "The City that Bleeds" / "Dead End" (the three parter with Steve Buscemi), and the "Sniper" two parter.

Not sure about which dvd the episodes appeared on but I remember them and they were really good.

Anyone remember the episode where the guy gets pushed by someone and is pinned between the train and the track wall and the cops know he'll die when the unpin him so they are looking for his girlfriend thru out the show and they never find her. That was a great epidoes too.

the corsetti episode in season 3 is also awesome.

the ending is well done.

im now halfway through season 6.. and am very sad its coming to an end.

i forgot how good a charecter that Mike Kellerman was.

Count me in for the Homicide loving! This is my all time fave show.
My favorite episode is Crossetti.
They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

The Crossetti episode probably has one of the most touching endings in the history of televison.

is this in syndication anywhere or just on dvd? havent seen it in years and really want to get back into it. i live in baltimore so there was always that appeal there too.
