if, for some crazy reason, I had the chance to redo the two sequels...what would I do? Where would I take the story? It seems so open at the end of the first one...and I drew a blank. For as much as I criticize the two sequels, I can't think of anything better.

I'm sure I'm the only one...but if you've thought about this...or you take a moment to think about it...what would you change? Have you and your friends ever talked about how the movies should have been?

I'd love to hear other people's ideas.

I think the problem is there's no emotional connection to what you're seeing onscreen. The characters are too wooden and there's really no development to speak of. I think it was a mistake to make the two movies linked together chronologically. I'd have much preferred Reloaded to feature more of Neo getting used to his abilities and beating some ass.

And after the end of the first flick, isn't it a huge letdown to see Neo's rather pedestrian fight with the new agents at the beginning of the Reloaded?

One thing, tangentially, that I didn't like in the sequels were the sound effects used for the punches. It seems like it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I think it would've helped the fights immeasurably/intangibly. Hearing that booming impact with each punch would be a bit more satisfying than what's currently there.

That was a dreadful explanation of what I meant.

I've never thought about this. All I know is that I was increasingly more disappointed in each sequel. The scene in the cave in the second movie was just ridiculous fluff. I would have been happier if original just stood alone.

I definitely wouldn't have gone all pseudo-spiritual with it. And they should have left more of the style of the first one. Too much of the sequels takes place outside the matrix and doesn't have any of the vibe that made the first one great.

The biggest problem with the sequels was the grade school philosophy. It was like one of those nights where you were drunk with your friends, and thought you were having the most intelligent conversation in the universe, and think you should record it and put it in a movie. Well they actually did this with the second and third movies and it was lame.

2001 did a great job of implying philosophical ideas without shoving it up your ass with needless dialogue. I can figuire out the irony of them using machines in order to survive in Zion without the characters pointing it out to me. It just got really annoying.

I had a lot of other problems with the sequels, but I enjoyed them as a whole. They definetly didn't have the Wow factor of the first film, and the whole bullet time thing became cliche before the second movie had even come out.

I would've been perfectly happy w/ Reloaded if they'd just cut out that stupid dance/rave scene near the beginning. I was disappointed w/ Revolutions at first but liked it better on subsequent viewings. I still think they shouldn't have released them back-to-back. With such a long gap in between the first one and the sequels, the hype got a little too big. The sequels were a little pretentious, where the first one seemed effortless.

Maybe shed a little more light on Morphous, a mystery even at the end, and he was the rebel of the resistance and a couple of solid, concrete reasons as to why would have been nice, besides the whole Neo is the “one” talk. Neo attempting to experiment more with his powers would have been nice, taking his abilities further and further, could have some really sweet scenes. More time in the Matrix would be a huge necessity. Cut down all the verbose dialogue that comes off as some crude, elementary philosophy. A final battle in the Matrix would have been nice as well.
