Sorry if it's old hat, or in the wrong forum.

CAVE SCRIPT MAKES CROWE CONSIDER GLADIATOR 2

RUSSELL CROWE is in negotiations to reprise his dead GLADIATOR character MAXIMUS in a sequel to the hit 2000 movie after reading a strange script penned by Aussie rocker NICK CAVE.

The actor, who won an Oscar for his portrayal, had originally dismissed the idea of making a sequel with director RIDLEY SCOTT, but Cave's writing has forced him to think again.

He tells Australia's Empire magazine, "At first I was very cynical about that notion (of a sequel), but I've come around on it. We've had other ideas too, where we step off into the metaphysical and you actually acknowledge the fact that Maximus is dead, but that is a hard script to write.

"Nick Cave actually wrote a draft for me and Ridley at one point. He's an excellent writer. Nick did this draft and Ridley and I considered it for a while.

"I actually paid for it, such is my belief for the idea. But unless everybody is on line then it's kind of pointless going forward with it."

I like Nick Cave, but this sounds like an incredibly stupid idea. The first movie is good, some think great. Don't fuck that up with a sequel. He's f'ing dead. Are we going to watch him fight battles in heaven? Maybe lead the Roman Army on Earth as a ghost or reincarnation?

"Universal Pictures and DreamWorks are developing a sequel to 2000's Oscar-winning blockbuster Gladiator. John Logan, who wrote the original, will script the sequel. Gladiator 2 is set 15 years after the original. Russell Crowe won an Oscar for his role as the fallen hero Maximus."
