I would maybe rent it but it's being whored out way too much for my taste. It seems to be a little too formulaic to me, like most action movies nowadays.

if this is what you think...read the book...
I'm not saying the book is like that but usually when they translate books like this to the screen they take some liberties with the script. Maybe I'm just talking out my ass.

no, you are kind of right. currently i'm reading the bourne books (identity, supremacy..) and there is a huge difference between what happens in the book and what happened in the movies. HUGE!

I love Clive Cussler books and have eagerly awaited this. I've heard pretty much all good things in terms of it matching the characterizations in the book, which is the most important thing to get right (moreso than the actual plot). Looking forward to it tonight.

It is amazing though that both of them are pretty damn good. The Bourne Identity book has literally nothing to do wtih the movie. Only the memory loss, the getting picked up by a ship, and the group he works with. The rest of the story is completly changed. I can understand why though. The old school politcal ideas of the books are a bit dated these days.

clive cussler was very into the writing of the script...and was there every step of the way...this is the only reason i know this movie has potential...i'll be there tonight as well ensign...if people knew cussler, and knew he was involved, they'd be coming out in droves

i completely agree, even though they don't have much in common both the books and the movies are really good. it's kind of nice after seeing the first two movies and then going to read the book that it's not the same story. it would be kind of boring to read it if they were just the same thing as the movie. but this is different and feels like a whole new story just with some of the same characters.

That was not true early on. There are quite a few reports and interviews with Cussler, with him absolutely railing against the production and his lack of involvement. The studio finally wised up and brought him into the fold.

Something else worth mentioning is that McConaughey is contracted for 4 more Cussler/Dirk Pitt movies.
i like mcconaughey, so this makes me happy...
i did not know they didn't have cussler on the scene at first...this suprises me, since he swore no more new movies after Raise the Titanic
I would love to see a remake of RTT, given that the technology they could use to pull it off is so much better nowadays. Unfortunately, seeing as how the real Titanic is actually in about 3 pieces, it may not be possible without making the flick occur in an alternate timeline.
