Does anyone know how long they were actually in Korea? I know the series was on for over a decade but was the entire show supposed to take place over the course of 18-24 months? There probaly is no anwser but I was always curious.

The actual Korean war was in major hostilities between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953. I'm not sure how much of that time the TV show was supposed to actually cover.
That being said, my wife and I are huge fans. We have the DVD movie and all of the seasons on DVD. Of course, my parents named me after BJ Hunnicutt, which ended up being quite an in road with my wife as he was her favorite character.
Love the series, I can still watch any episode and laugh out loud.

Alan Alda was just ON FIRE during this whole run. He still stands as pretty much my favorite sounding laugh of any TV character in history, when he let loose with that high cackle, just that alone had me rollin Absolutely in my top 10 shows of all time, possibly top 5.

RIP Col. Potter. MASH was on before the news when I was about 12-15 and I watched just about every day. It was the first show I was able to watch the entire run and be able to appreciate as being a quality series. Another rerun I loved from when I was that age? The Carol Burnett show on TBS. Tim Conway's Old Man skits and Harvey Korman trying to keep a straight face would still make me laugh today.
