I keep seeing previews for this and every time I do I think...shouldn't this be renamed "Jumanji II: Outer Space"?

the posters for the movie say from the world of jumanji, and the more recent commercials are more or less calling it the next chapter of jumanji. my guess for not calling it jumanji 2 or somehitng is that the game being played is called zathura, but i havent seen it try to be denied that it is alot like jumanji

Then my question is this. Was Jumanji actually a big enough hit to require some sort of follow-up?

im not sure, i havent really seen the whole movie, just pats of it, but my fiancee really likes it and we have it on DVD, my guess would be that it will be good, i think it is a book and probably a popular book, but the main reason for it being made is probably because of the special effects abilities they have these days, kinda like with all of the old horror movie remakes, alot of them werent that good back in the day but they think they can be better with new technology( though they usually arent  ).

but that is just what i think when i see the commercials, it will probably be pretty damn sweet visually, and hopefully they have a decent story to go with it

Isn't this movie for kids? It looks like a cross between "Spy Kids" and "Jumanji" You guys seem a little bit too interested :?

262 million worldwide.

Jumanji and Zathura are both based on books by the same author, Chris Van Allsburg. He also wrote the Polar Express.

Wow, that shocks me. I thought Jumanji was kinda crappy, but I guess it wasn't really marketed towards me.

This is a great season for tween movies - Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and Zathura. I won't pretend like I'm not going to go see Harry Potter because I most definately am. I'll probably see Narnia too, however, I have no desire to see Zathura.

I think Zathura is more a film that parents will take their pre-teen kids to, while Narnia and Potter are also that way, but teens and adults will still go see them on their own and be entertained.

the author of jumanji was sufferering from a writers block so he just decided to write the same book again.
