It's never a certainty if any of Gilliams projects make it to the finish line, but nevertheless, I'm excited! He's probably the best suited director for the job.

Terry Gilliam Talks "Good Omens"

Terry Gilliam is trying to get his next project "Good Omens" off the ground, based on a Terry Pratchett novel. Gilliam told UK news service Teletext: "I have struggled to find big projects that inspire me, but this book has. It's very funny, about the anti-Christ and devils and angels, it's very funny and inspiring. I have tried to find a small project like Tideland that I could do but I haven't found one."

He also claims he has given up going to the cinema as he finds it so dull: "I find it so dispiriting these days, maybe because I'm getting older. Films don't seem to surprise me any more, they don't leave pieces of shrapnel in me like they used to. The last one to do that was probably Crash, which kept playing with my prejudices."

Finally, when asked about his new film "Tideland" he joking talked about one long-time co-worker who wasn't a fan - Monty Python star Michael Palin - "Michael didn't speak to me after the screening, then rang the next day to say he really didn't like it at all. I like that reaction, I want to spark a debate".

Aside from The Brother's Grimm, I think everything Gilliam has done has been incredible... These should be great.

I think you mean Tideland, which has already been released.

Funny that the article credits the novel entirely to Terry Pratchett, since Neil Gaiman co-wrote it with him, and Neil Gaiman is arguably more well-known.

I'm excited about this. It's been rumored for years, so hopefully this is for real.

In the U.S. he might be, but over in Europe there's only a few that know of him.

Judging by the 379 votes it has received on imdb, it hasn't had a proper international release.

This is such a fun book, I can't wait to see how Gilliam handles it. I'm always rooting for him, he's a fantastic filmmaker, and he's constantly misunderstood and not given enough credit from the studios. Screw em.

Really? I thought he was as at least as big internationally as he is in the US, judging by the variety of emails he responds to in his blog.

A few years ago Johnny Depp was rumored to be playing one of the leads (Azriel? Raziel? It's been a while since I've read it). I wonder if that's still a possibility.

It really bugs me that someone I respect so much was actually effected by Crash.

I'd heard of, read, and fallen for Terry Pratchett long before I ever heard the name Gaiman. And I'm American. I thought he was quite a bit more popular, as a novelist anyway.

I'm iffy on this project. Gilliam is hit and miss. Hopefully it will be a home run.

I'd say the only bad movie he's made is the Brothers Grimm. The rest ranges from simply okay (Jabberwocky, The adventures of Baron Munchousen) to brilliant (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Brazil, Twelve Monkeys).

This seems like a good pairing. I love that book.

Good Omens is one of the funniest books I have ever read. This plus "Stardust" filming now means this will be a big year for Gaimen. About damn time.

Well, as good as Neil Gaiman may be, with Sam Raimi making making the Wee Free Men, the BBC to release the Hogfather come christmas and Gilliam intending to film Good Omens, I'd say it is the year in which Terry Pratchett finally gets his recognision.
